Haney's Marine in Maple Ridge?
« on: August 24, 2012, 07:19:53 AM »

I was wondering if any one has ever taken their boat here.  I've been lucky and never had any issues with my boat until just recently.  It's boating season therefor to get your boat into certain shops are sometimes 3 weeks out.  He charges $100/hr.

Has anyone had any bad experience from this shop?

Or if anyone has any Any boat Mechanics you could refer?? That would be appreciated it.  I've got a 16.5 ft smoker craft with a 1995 50hp motor.  It's just dogging out and losing power at full throttle.  Max it goes is 8kms an hour.

Thanks in advance.

I've had a few things done there, from tune-ups to a rebuild on a 60hp merc powerhead and have been happy with all the work done, and the pricing.

You may have water in the carburetor(s) - it's a common problem these days.
The excess water in the carb bowls allows enough fuel through to idle but not enough to run beyond that.

There may be a drain plug in the bottom of the carb bowls that will let you drain the water out.

The water is caused by using regular gas with ethanol in it - switch to a premium gas with no ethanol.

I've been doing a little bit of researching as well and you're right it seems to be a very common problem.  The next time i'm out I will switch to premium gas and try it out.

Thanks.  I'm guessing it could be pretty minor.  She fires up everytime and purrs like a kitten.  I'll try the draining the water out.

Thank you for your post.  I've heard nothing but good things about him thus far.  Looks like i will be dropping my boat off to him on Monday.

To think I was thinking about selling the boat?? Driving me nutz just knowing I can't randomly decide to go fish while its down and out.

Joe at Haney Marine does all my work.
Great guy and stands behind his work there.
If u dont have have a water separator/fuel filter installed....get one!!!!
Change it every year and water problems should be solved.
I put one in yrs ago and has eliminated all those problems.
