Capilano River, June 24th 2012: Chris 2, Eagle 0

Checked out one of my favorite spots today. Lots of fish were rising and moving through but they were not very much into biting, more like racing upstream.  After 20min I got my first of the day, a fat 3lber. I bonked it and put it in a shallow pool nearby. As I was fishing for coho number two I noticed an eagle flying towards me, "wow" I thought, he's flying pretty low. (you know what's coming).  Next thing I see is his talons come out and he grabs my coho without slowing a bit. HEY! I yell out but he's making his getaway.... when he smashes into my upright flyrod that I had proped on a boulder just past my fish. The startled eagle drops my fish and lands on a nearby branch but I recover my fish before he can figure out what just happened. I hid my fish in my vest like I usually do this time and 5min later I finally get coho number two. Nice morning out and I was the only guy around till 7am. Checked out the cable pool after but all I did there was clean up all the junk that's been left around and talk with other regular fishers. Same story from most guys- lots of fish moving through.
Good luck and be safe, it's slick everywhere.

Nice :)

I had a loon swim by my kickboat and grab a bonked trout I had dragging behind me on a stringer the other weekend; had to yank it out of his mouth and tie the fish closer to the side of the boat. Nutty bird kept making passes so pulled the fish out of the water until he left :P Lesson learned.

Thanks for the report!
