If you're crabbing from a dock try Cates Park in N Van. I remember getting a few keepers in Dungenous & Red Crab.

The crab are mostly in deeper water right now. Last outing we set traps at 30' 60' 80' 100'. We found only the 80'  and 100' produced good crab. Prob has something to do with the spawn and molt season? I like to hang bait like salmon carcass and put a hunk of chicken in a wire basket. The soft shell makes for eating though.

I think you mean crabbing... your post implies you're doing something else!

LOL.  Btw, a couple friends of mine who were in the biology or marine biology dept in the 90's told me so many times that the crabs they tested from around Barnet Marine Park often contain tumors.  They also had several flounders that are contaminated as well.  The water is very polluted around there.   Just an FYI.  I wouldn't eat anything resident out of the Burrard Inlet period.  I'm pretty sure that anything from at least West of the Capilano River should be a lot better.  But definitely stay away from anything east of Capilano River/Ambleside on the Burrard Inlet.
