As we approach the 'beach' / shore Salmon fishing season we (wife and I) are looking to give it a go for the 1st time ..... appreciating no-one wants to give away secrets on the Internet - would someone be kind enough to just give us a couple of locations from say North / West Van.  We will only likely get out a few times given work & tides so we shouldnt add to the masses by much!

Thanks to both, we are on North Van, so will try to pop into Highwater today - thanks for the tips!

Looking out the window it's more like beach fishing weather!!

Oops - missed the fly or gear bit ..... both.  I will be flyfishing but wife will be throwing small spoons / small hoochies.

On the fly I was thinking chartreuse and brown/white Crazy Charlies.  Spoons thinking blue & silver and small?

A little early Yes but practice makes perfect.

The fastest fishing is usually low tide in the early  AM  check the tide charts and mark the lowest tides on your calendar right into September.

That being said the Best time to go fishing is whenever you can.

Can anyone help with info on launching a 14' from Cates.....degree of difficulty and launching around Deep Cove....Public Launch?

Yes the launch at cates is big (I believe it has room for 4 or 5 boats at a time), and a wharf to tie up at while you park the car.

Anyone try from shore around the Porteau Cove area?

My Dad and I are going to be camping out there soon.  He can't get around very well anymore, but he wouldn't mind being able to stand around some stable areas and cast.

(yes I know about the Marine Park area closures)

i have had a few good conversations with andre 5000 at the steveston marine on w. 5th about local beach fishing. he has sold me on a fly set up. its on the top of the to do list this summer boys and girls

Local beach fishing is fine it's the catching that's poor there's just not much swimming out there-as you'll soon discover.

Thx ynot and Sandman, would anyone be able to help with a public launch at Deep Cove, my 15 year old wants to rent a kayak there as he had a school kayak trip and loved it, I thought I might launch my 14' and hang out with him and fish at the same time, just don't know where to launch, and at Ambleside is there only one public launch ramp and is it the one in the park more to the east side of the beaches, and I think I remember reading it was not so easy a ramp?? ???
