I was up in the nosebleeds, and when the lights went dim prior to puck drop, and the Canucks started to flow through the tunnel onto the ice, led by Lou, there was a good feeling. Emphasized by the vigor at which Lou hit the ice and "sprinted" to his crease. Head up, he skated as hard as he could and began his regiment of scraping his marks in the ice in front of the net.

With that, I knew Lou would deliver.

skool on sunday eh brian, NO CLASS, you still have to win 12 more sir...holmes*

don't worry too much about it holmes...just trash talk...  fans are just relieved to see the monkey off vancouver's back... we haven't forgotten that a couple of hawk players are a couple of our own BC BOYS....but with that said, Toews and Co. got a dish of what the canucks have been chewing on for the past couple of years...now they have the long flight home (pardon the pun) and the whole summer to dwell on the "what if's".

The 'top' players can sometimes cancel each other out in a series.

ie. the Sedins, Kane and Toews

Its the depth, and gritty, big heart guys that step in to elevate their team.  This year, the Canucks have it.

Burr, Kesler, Torres, Hansen, Higgins, Lapiere all stepped up and came in waves. To which the Hawks had no answer. Crawford kept it close. Nuff said.

Canucks dominated 4 of the games (winning three of them). No showed 2 of the games (got blown out), and played one game even up with the Hawks.

This series, IMHO, was more of what the Canucks did or didn't do, than what challenge the Hawks put up.

If the Canucks show up, stick to their process, they will win the majority of games. The 82 game body of work is no mirage. They just can't be their own worst enemy and play with indiference, in this league, you will get blown out.

On the next one.

Round Two - To Catch a Predator

Lots of story lines against Nashville;

Shane O'Brien, former Canuck.
The Tootoo Factor
Hamhuis' former team

Big front end D pair for Nashville with Weber and Suter.  It will come down to depth as well.

Is Lou back on track?  Even if not, Schneider has gained a lot of experience very quickly.

Rinne is a wall in there.  Canucks will need to stick to their game, and not get frustrated.

Game 1 Tomorrow Night (wow that was quick) at 6pm.

GO CANUCKS GO!

Plenty of class, if the Hawks would have won you would have stuck it to us Canucks fans worse than that jab. That was nothing as far as smack talk, have you not read the other hockey thread with all the pokes between the Leafs and Canucks fans? Grow some thick skin otherwise watch figure skating or something LOL

damien the tootoo factor will be a bigger factor then I think alot of people realise.
Jordin Tootoo has gone through and overcame more real life hardships in his 28 years then probably you and most anyone has in their entire lives.

Right now he is a huge part of Preds team and has never played better hockey in his career. He will be a BIG part of this series.  And canucks players BETTER have their heads on a swivel when he's out there.

I see what Tootoo has accomplished and overcame as an incredibly inspirational story.
your little picture is a joke, I realise it's just a joke, however joking about someone's situation like that imo is offensive, tasteless and classless...

The crux of the joke has nothing to do with the little margarita in the picture.  Get over it.

Goalie Stats through round 1

Despite Lou's struggles, I found these stats interesting.

Save %
Rinne - .876%
Loungo - .903

GAA
Rinne - 3.29%
Loungo - 2.97%

Time on the Ice
Rinne - 346 minutes
Loungo - 343 minutes

Rinne - .876%
Loungo - .903

GAA
Rinne - 3.29%
Loungo - 2.97%

Time on the Ice
Rinne - 346 minutes
Loungo - 343 minutes

These stats are made more interesting by these parallel stats which will prove to be the deciding factor:

Shot for in Round 1: (/game)
Predators = 190 (32)
Canucks = 218 (31)

Goals for:  (/game)
Pedators = 22 (3.67)
Canucks = 16 (2.28)

Projected Goals for per game in Round 2 based on opposing goalie Round 1 save %
Predators = 3.16
Canucks = 3.85

Note: Neither team was able to significantly "shut down" opposing team's offense (ie: reducing their shot per game totals in Round 1 from their seasonal averages), although the Canucks did have a slight edge (The Hawks averaged 2 more shots per game during the regular season than they did against the Canucks in Round 1, where as Nashville only managed to reduce Anaheim's shots by 1 per game.  On the other side, Chicago was able to reduce Vancouver's seasonal average by 3 shots/game, whereas Anahiem's defense actually allowed the Predators 3 more shots/game than the Preds had managed all season).  Therefore, if the Canuck Defense can do to the Predators what it did to the Hawks and keep Predators to below their Seasonal average of 28 shots/game, they should have an edge in offense this series, despite Nashville's surge in offense in round 1 against the Ducks.

Game 1 in the books. With a Canucks 1-0 win

The team played well all game. Pekka Rinne was the only reason this was not a 5-0 win. I expect the Preds to play better on Saturday hopefully the boys play like they did tonight and find some flaws in Rinne's game.

Only 11 more wins to go ;)

Trotz called out his people, big time.  "Too many passengers".  lol

Its just one game though.  It will get tougher, and even this one could have gone the other way.  Which would have brought out the, "when is Kelser going to score?!?!", "the twins have disappeared" blabber.

Glad it was over when it was.  Can't let them hang around that long.  Gotta get Rinne moving a bit more.

PS - Awesome HIP CHECK by Ballard.

NOT clipping;

Rule 44 - Clipping

44.1 Clipping - Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.

A player may not deliver a check in a “clipping” manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees.

An illegal “low hit” is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees.
