2011 ORC Endangered Rivers List
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:36:24 PM »

Got this in an email. Please consider voting for the Thompson River.
---------------------------
Dear River Advocates;

The Outdoor Recreation Council of British Columbia (ORC)
is asking for nominations toward its 2011 BC Endangered Rivers List.

Your nominations will help us choose the "Top Ten" rivers in British
Columbia that face urgent threats to their ecological health.

Please send your candidate river(s) to ORC before March 18th, 2011.
The final list will be distributed to major media outlets later in the spring,
helping to raise awareness of BC River issues.

Please send your river nominations to:

Mark Angelo, ORC Rivers Chair
mangelo@bcit.ca

and

Jeremy McCall, ORC Executive Director
outdoorrec@orcbc.ca

Dear Messrs McCall and Angelo,

Please accept this as my submission for the Outdoor Recreation Council’s 2011 Endangered Rivers List.

My nomination is the Thompson River tributaries, the Nicola, the Deadman and the Bonaparte rivers.

All three waterways suffer from: dewatering and, as a result, high in-stream water temperatures; pollution; over fishing; degraded habitat; government intransigence and bureaucratic blame shifting; a lack of accurate fish stock data and mixed stock interception.

Sadly, early timed Chinook salmon to these rivers are on the verge of extirpation with steelhead not far behind.

Thank you for your efforts,
Greg Gordon
