Problems with casting far enough
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:50:19 PM »

I am using a Daiwa Luna 300 reel loaded with braid together with an inexpensive rod 11 foot that seems to perform OK.

First cast goes way out.    Subsequent casts don't go nearly as far.   Let it rest for 15 minutes and the first cast goes way out again.   I am puzzled as to why.

Muscles get tired and by the end of the day can be weak but not between the first and second cast.   Can wet line make the difference so perhaps a mono or fused line would work better?    Can the reel casting brake get warm and slow down a cast?

Comments would be appreciated.

Try backing off the "casting brake" fully and just use your thumb to control spool speed.  See if there's a difference.

Open up the palm side of the casing there are magnetic breaks.  Push all the small white tabs in (towards centre).  You'll get alot more casting distance.  But do becarefull at this setting the spool is basically free spooling, you might get bird nests if you are not experienced in casting this type of reel.

I wonder if its how you cast....try to use the flex of the rod tip, sort of like a slingshot, rather than throwing it out there.  That might help.

My bad.  300 has the blue adjustment dial.  200 is the one with the tab.  It's function is the same just turn the dial to the 'less' direction.
