It’s derby time again at Alouette lake

Last year the Alouette Lake Fishing Derby was a big success and The Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce is exited to be hosting the second annual 2010 Alouette Lake Fishing Derby. This year the Derby is going to be bigger and better than ever, with more competitors and boats being allowed in than last year, more and bigger cash prizes and a bunch of great sponsors.

This will be a fun day for all, I hope to see you there.

I only have one comment to make regarding the derby and this video:

At 1:36, an angler holds up a stringer of live fish, which is not permitted under our freshwater fishing regulations. All fish that anglers intend to keep are required to be killed immediately. This rule is done to prevent people from "high grading", releasing the smaller catches that are kept alive when bigger ones are caught later on. In a derby where the largest fish win the prizes, you can see why there would be an even bigger incentive for high grading.

It'd be a good idea to have regulations that are in effect at Allouette Lake available to all derby participants prior to the start of the event so all are aware of what they need to do.

You all want to make this one. The number of Kokanee that came out of the lake in last years derby was amazing, not a tuff fishery either. The Maple Ridge Chamber a fantastic job of making last years derby a reel fun family event, so this year should be even better.

The Reel Life Team and I will be there again giving fly tying instruction, drop by and say hello.

Hello,

Just to clarify. Canoes, kayaks and floatation fishing tubes are not considered to be apart of the 75 boat limit. The boat limit is for motorized multi person boats that need use of the boat launch and trailer parking.
