Duck Hunting Nov 21
« on: November 22, 2009, 09:40:37 AM »

Headed out for an afternoon hunt with my 13 yr old son hoping for a shot at a bird or two.  It's been 4 yrs since the last time I went out for a Duck hunt, so was anxious to get out.  With a bit of wind and some rain I thought it would be okay.  Saw some birds flying, but not interested in my decoys.  I was teaching my son all I know about duck hunting, and also was teaching him about gun safety with the time we had, since we were just standing around waiting.  Well it started getting dark and with legal hunting time drawing near I was still hoping for one shot.  Sure enough that one shot came when a lone drake came gliding in towards our decoys.  I shot, and down comes the bird.  Waited for a bit longer but hunting time was up.  We picked everything up and headed home.  I wanted to show my son how to pluck and properly clean a duck.  So we set up in the garage and started the cleaning.  Not a piece of shot in the body of the bird.  All head shot.  Makes for a nice clean job.  My some was so interested in the hunt and the cleaning part I think I may have a future duck hunter.  Heading out for a morning hunt tomorrow.  Hoping for some duck weather.  Shooting a 100% but I know that won't last long.

Happy Hunting

Every hunt is a great hunt when you're hunting with your kid. Keep it up!
