I'm not sure if it simulates fish eggs I think it may well look like a piece of flesh, like the flesh flies that are so popular in some Cariboo rivers, wvr it works on lots of species when river fishing.

I've heard, haven't tried it yet, that a single egg with a bit of white or orange wool will represent a salmon egg that has skein hanging from it and fish love it.  It looks like natural salmon egg floating around.

i perfer to fish wool for adult chinook or chum because it saves on bait and u can still hook plenty of fish. Orange and red, or cerise and peach. Like show in the photos small pieces shaped into an egg are best. and i perfer a shank tie over a egg loop, it cinches the wool against the eye of the hook and gives it more of a rounded look

notice my hook/wool laying on the fish

Just a regular snell knot.  Slip the knot down the hook a mm or so, then push the line thru the eye until you have a 'loop' to fit the wool through.

Works great.

Here's how to tie it:
