smoking with black walnut shavings?

a friend of mine is making a cabinet out of black walnut and has a piece left for scrap
 does any body know if its good for smoking with as the scrap could be planed into shavings?

If it's meat you're smoking fine but I wouldn't use it for fish too strong nut wood is usually a strong oily taste maybe try cutting it something like Alder or Apple.
