Stave River, November 5th 2008
« on: November 05, 2008, 08:40:19 PM »

Well i decided to try the Stave again but this time i took the fly rod and the drift rod
Got there around 6.40am
I parked up at the lower end before the dam and walked down onto a muddy flat where one guy was spey fishing and another was drifting
well not much doing there just lots of chum

I then headed over the dam and walked down to the bowl
there were about three guys fly fishing and a few casting spinners
I decided to give it ago to see if there were any Ho's kicking around
Nothing but chum and one spring that a guy got on the fly rod
I then went back over the dam and walked down to another area with set up the drift rod
I hooked lots of nice cleanish chum (one really sliver looking) on the blade with a short float and slow drift
Then i was joined by a group of guys that were drinking beer and one even threw his empty can in the river :wallbash:
Well i was not going to say anything as there more of them than me
and i noticed as i passed the others on my way back that there were empty cans all around them

Is it just me or are some people either sad, desperate or don't know any better people( i won't call them fishermen) who fish stacked pools of dieing spawned out fish and take them home :wallbash:
There was a bunch of them fishing from this small shore line :naughty:
I was tempted to stop and give some advice but i was not sure what reaction i would get :hmmm:
It would be nice if there was a way someone could set up a fishing best practice school that could tour the rivers
I guess i am just dreaming here :-\

They could be practitioners of "Caveman Cuisine". I wondered what these guys were doing with those rotton chum but basically they are doing the old "hunter gatherer" routine. Supposed to add years to your life and generally improve your health. I can imagine after a rotton chum meal there might be some nasty flatulence but if you keep your distance all's fair.

:'( Could some of these guys just have the intention of bringing home the boots for the roe...  ???  Wonder if the Stave will be good this coming weekend - so much rain that maybe the Coho will start to travel up river to the dam and stage... :D

Any more rain and you'll soon be able to catch them on the Lougheed Highway.

Stave isn't effected by rain as much.  It has the dam to regulate.
