Ex UFC champ Evan Tanner, dead at 37.
« on: September 12, 2008, 03:08:36 PM »

Evan Tanner died this last week in a tragic camping accident.

He had taken his motorcycle and full gear and headed out into the deep desert for some camping and alone time. He had taken GPS, cell, water, fuel, etc.

Apparently Evan had set out for a 5mile day hike to a desert spring. On Wed last, a text was received from Evan by his friends, telling him that he had run out of water and was going to try to make it back to his camp at night in the cool, and if they didn't hear from him the next morning to send help.

After several days of searching, rescuers found Evan's body only 1.2 miles from his camp. He had succumbed to the desert.

For those of you who didn't know of Evan, he was a self taught fighter, had the heart of Lion. Always the last guy to stick around to sign autographs for the kids, he was the only UFC fighter to answer a charities call to help out building a children's playground.

There was nothing fake about the man, he will be missed.

"It is a shame that in this society we've been taught to judge a man's worth by what he owns instead of who he is. Everything is surface, and so few look beyond it. A man will sell his soul, he will lie, cheat and steal, for money. If he has it, he can buy respect. Wear the right clothes, drive the right car, have the right friends, that's all that matters. Our lives are consumed in a selfish, self absorbed quest for possessions, the latest and the best in a never-ending cycle until the day we die. We forget what it means to be truly human. We forget the things that really matter. We lose the magic of what life should be.

I won't live by rules that make no sense to me."
