STS Guiding Service July 2008 announcement
« on: July 27, 2008, 03:54:05 PM »

Recreational fisheries for Fraser River sockeye in South Coast marine waters and the Fraser River remains closed to sockeye retention. Marine waters and tidal (See FN0511) and non-tidal portions of the Fraser River (See FN0512) will open for sockeye retention Saturday 00:01 July 26.

Sockeye opening is scheduled for this weekend July 26, although we are already booked solid we can offer 4 hour trips in the afternoon starting at 4 pm for both Saturday and Sunday. It's hard to predict how fishing will be as we have not yet tried to catch a sockeye but you can be assured we will be on the water trying first thing Saturday morning.

Our schedule for the week of July 28 is fairly good, we have a few trips out each day but we can accommodate a few more. You can book a 6 or 8 hour trip with morning start times or a 4 hour trip starting in the afternoon. Our rates are posted at GuideBC.

If sockeye fishing is not your cup of tea, the trout and sturgeon fishing have both been good to excellent this past week. I have been fishing the Upper Pitt fly fishing for trout and now a few sockeye are starting to move in which offers the fly angler some additional challenges while fly fishing this pristine remote river. The fishing on the Pitt River should continue to produce good results until water levels drop which should give us another 3 to 4 weeks if this warm weather continues.

The Sturgeon fishing has been good to excellent, Tom landed a 7 ft 1 inch fish Wednesday and I had a monster on but unfortunately after a 30 minute battle the hook popped lose. We are averaging 6 to 10 fish per trip with some days a bit better. Fraser Canyon Sturgeon fishing is starting to pick up as water levels are starting to come down. We ran to Hells Gate last weekend and enjoyed some fun in the whitewater as well as some good fishing.

Our Jet Boat Tour business is really starting to take off since the launch of our new website. We will be offering jet boat tours and guiding fishing in the Fraser canyon starting this weekend and now that sockeye fishing is open, we might add a little salmon fishing into our canyon trips.

Hope you all have a great week and enjoy the great fishing.
