New Fisheries Act tabled in Parliament today
« on: December 13, 2006, 03:00:35 PM »

I understand that DFO introduced a new Fisheries Act,  to "overhaul the 138 year old" version.  Check out the DFO website for more info.

Fisheries Management Orders (FMO) and Agreements
Sanctions
Habitat Management
Licensing changes
More Transparency
Streamlining Regulatory Processes
Modernizing Compliance
Balancing Enforcement

“The general prohibition on the harmful alteration, disruption or destruction (HADD) of fish habitat remains a cornerstone of the Fisheries Act and a specific priority of the fish habitat management program.”

I like it!
But, how about those sea lice!? You know, the ones the BC Government and FOC says don't exist!
Wow! It all sounds good. Let's see what the nay sayers will be saying about this ambitious new Act.
Hats off to the Minister for taking on a very important and contraversial Act. Many other previous governmants talked the talk but never walked the walk.

In all respect Eddy, we are having our lawyers onto it now, looks like maybe just a rehash of Liberal policies of old.

Some thought is they maybe trying to get us away from the screw ups they have made on the recent treaties.Commons will be breaking for Christmas so Bill says it is not going anywhere in a big hurry.

The SDA is having a meeting shortly to try and deal with all these things threatening our fishing and hunting opportunities.

More battles to endure and wage. Thanks for groups like the SDA and forums like this to keep as many updated as possible.

Today received several copies of a review of chapter 11 Fisheries an analysis and commentary of the Lheidli T'enneh Final Agreement. More reading to do and understand.

Eddie,
The details are what you and I do not have.
Everything is in the details.

One thing you missed it the right to allocate fish. That in itself is a huge.
"To allocate individual quotas or quotas to companies or organizations"

Give that some thought.
