Question, from someone who's only caught a few whites on wool but prefers hardware and roe/worms, how far will a  holding fish move to take wool? or is it better to put it in front of a moving fish? thanks.

Dumb answer...depends on the fish, water conditions, light conditions and the almighty.  I've seen them move 10' or so in clear water.  Mostly you have to put it near them 1.5-2'.  Similar to trout.  Fish don't like to move out of their "hiding" spot too far.  I'm going to PM you about the Stave.

late report but i fished the vedder sunday also. I have never seen so  many people. Well, i guess today was my lucky day as I hooked into 6 coho, but only three landed. Also landed a nice hatchery white spring about 15 pounds. Two of the Cohos were over 10 pounds while the third about 8 pounds maximum. all were hatchery. I didn't see very many fish caught except a few Spring. The ticket for me was wool and roe.

Leadbelly, stick to the roe/worms & hardware. While woolties do work its mostly on pooled up fish or ones holding in runs etc. In open water wool is rarely taken, I think you know what I'm getting at here. They do not go far to chase your wool! Wool by itself is a very efficient lining tool & many on the Vedder use it for just that purpose.

It is sad because the coho & whites in the Vedder are great biters. Now I know I'll get flack for this but this is my view. Wool is great in combos with jensens, bobs, s & g's, guts etc but by itself it is just too easy to foul em.

When you see a group of snaggers on the river what do the all have in common......wool!
