Can't keep them off the line again on the Fraser August 10th
« on: August 10, 2004, 04:00:16 PM »

We had another group of talented youngsters with us today. Not only did they know all their fish species names, they managed to catch all four target species, and lots of them. ;D

The art of baiting. ;D

This fish, believe it or not, was caught on Krispy Creme Donut! ;D

In total, there were probably two dozens shiner perch, half a dozen peamouth chub, one pikeminnow and one sculpin that mysteriously showed up in the tank. ;D

Schooling in the tank before release.

Plenty of shiner perch, which were pecking off bait during the entire outing. Peamouth chub were not as abundant, but you can still find a few if they get to the bait before the shiners. ;D Water clarity is improving big time, I may just have to head down to Steveston and buy a couple of lbs shrimp to target sockeyes. :)

All fish were released unharmed at the end. The rest of the photos can be found here.

Wildlife sightings today! We saw some angry herons, lots of geese staging on the mud flat during low tide. There was also an Olympic class diving rat. :o The sparrows couldn't resist our dough so they hopped around us the whole time. No eagles today though, :( normally we would see the odd ones. Saw a nice size pikeminnow surfacing, probably hunting down the school of sticklebacks that we saw just before. :)

Time to relax. ;D

You're making me envious of those kids, Rodney. I wish you would take me fishing. I could use something, anything, on my line soon.
Keep up the good works with the kids. It's a delight to watch kids enjoy this sport.

any big pike minnows being caught? have you tried spinning for them yet?
Also, this  past weekend i was fishing at gary point park  and my buddy hooked a fish but it fell off before we could identify it, it was streamlined and brown but it was not a sculpin. What caould it be? I also saw one of these fish jump and it was the same species as he caught.
anyone know?
