Como Lake, March 22nd 2013
« on: March 22, 2013, 09:09:58 PM »

Decided to visit Como Lake today after work as it was supposed it be a nice afternoon.  It was nice - for about half an hour.  The rest of the time was a mix of clouds, sleet, and snow.  lol

Anyhow, onto the fishing report.  I fished Como after work from 4-6pm, floating around in my tube with a buddy.

He landed one just before I got there on a sinking line and a carey special.

I had 3 good pulls and landed one of them. It looked to be in much nicer shape than other pellet-fed brats I'd caught in there before, so out of curiousity (and hunger, I'm a bachelor this week as my wife is away and I had nothing in the fridge for dinner! lol) I decided to bring it home for dinner to see if they really tasted as bad as everyone says.

They're pretty close. lol

I used a lot of butter, pepper, and lemon, and it was an ok meal, but I wouldn't rush out for the sole purpose of stocking the fridge. lol

For what it's worth, I got the fish on a #14 green sparkle mini-leech, and when I cleaned it the fish was JAMMED with black #12 chironomid. And I mean it was FULL of the buggers.

Oh that was you, we should have chucked some krill at you. ;D

We left at 4:15pm, just when the snow started coming down hard. ;) The kids I took out had quite a few bites actually, they just need to set the hook next time. ;D

Was it just them setting the hook Rodney?  ;)
I took my two girls out for a bit... until the older one got bored and wanted to leave. Funny how her younger sister with a shorter attention span didn't want to leave.
Only one fish for us today. But a good time out.
Good to see you again Rodney. I hope your letting your wife get out for the occasional fishing trip too! ;)

Yes you should've - I was getting hungry out there! lol

I couldn't believe the snow.  It was coming down hard, and the flakes were huge.  I was happy to be wearing lots of merino wool baselayers and when I remembered I brought one of those heat pack things that you click the disc and it suddenly gets warm, I almost started crying I was so happy.  My hands sure appreciated it.  ha!

Shh! ;D Good seeing you again. We may go back again next week (apparently they want to get skunked again) so may bump into you if you are bringing the girls again. Maybe I'll get Nina to bring them next time for better results. ;D

I think half of those bites were brown bullhead because the bait was on the bottom. I usually do much better with a float but it's just harder to control for first timers.

Not a whole lot of space for the shore fly fisherman. It can be done but both are busy walking paths so you really have to watch what you are doing. Spinning rods work better.
