I got a ticket on my way to the Vedder in January and the cop didn't even for registration.
I also have a photocopy and it is stored out of reach but I didn't think of it at the time.

I have been broken in to two times on the Vedder and one time on the Fraser.
This is my advice, and this is what I do. Leave nothing in you car. Take your insurance papers in you vest, and leave your garage opener at home. And I leave my car unlocked.

How about taking the relative papers with you in your pack,
You just have to remember to put them back in your dash box. ;D

Every company owned fleet of trucks that I have worked for have kept copies of insurance and vehicle inspection papers in the cab. All originals kept on file and I have delt with CVSE (scale guys) and police portable weigh stations on numerous occasions so yes I believe it is legal

I've done some fleet management as part of my job for many years. At one time we put photocopies in the vehicle and the originals were kept on file then we were told to keep copies on file and put originals in the vehicles. I work  for a government body so you can make what you want for that. As copies can be so easily altered they are not legally accepted in most situations. I've been in court and if the only evidence is copies it's usually thrown out or accepted under a 'voi dire' until the originals are produced. I'd say blanking out the owners name would appear suspicious.

I worked overseas for some time where the cops specifically advise drivers NOT to leave their registration / insurance information in the glove box.

Someone steals your paperwork and they've got it all.......Why would you give the perps everything they need ?

If it truly exists here its a stupid law and one that needs a permanent incision.
