Holiday Monday Chasing Salt Sox September 4th
« on: September 04, 2006, 08:31:44 PM »

Well, Pops-in-law and I made to Steveston well before dawn and launched to head toward the mouth. We were among the first four boats on the water today. Saw an amazing sunrise (and smacked two sox right off the hop) ;D. We had to wait another couple of hours before the next ones though and as soon as we hooked the first one, it seemed that forty other boats were immediately headed toward where we hooked up (others were also waiting awhile to hook up I guess ;)). Anyway. later on about noon, we found a really big school of biters and trolled back and forth across them untill we limted out. Great day and a limit of tasty ocean caughts too. 8) 8)
Oh yeah, tide was perfect and no wind; flat all day!!

So are they shutting the salt down too now?  Apparently the river shuts down tomorrow mid night so I am hoping the ocean remains open for a while, anyone know for sure?

Hey! Good report...good report.

SOX were HOT this weekend in the chuck...particularly off the Sandheads lightship and HOOTER..at one point..you could have walked on 'em...at several times... there was a school of about 500 finning on the surface...and the sounder blanked out they were so thick down there. AWESOME!

It was great to see 100 boats, and 3/4th of them hooked up at the same time, and absolutely NO ONE snagging, ripping hooks through the water, using 10, 20 or 30 foot leaders...

THAT was what sockeye fishing was about...one the water, using your gear and tackle, SPENDING MONEY to ANGLE for sockeye..and legitimately HOOK fish.

Myself and Montegobay worked it all weekend....awesome.

NO WORD OF A LIE, fake sick, GET OUT THERE NOW if you have a boat...get a few of the guys together..take the morning off...get a charter boat if you ain't got one, pony up the $$$, and EXPERIENCE what SALTWATER SOCKEYE fishing is about.

FRESH, PRIME GREENBACKS. NO SCARS< NO SNAGGING< NO YELLING< SPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIORSnext person that tells me about how snagging is good for the economy in the Valley and for a few guys selling BB's and line, and a couple of hooks, should really get OFF their BUTT and get out there and truly see what SOCKEYE fishing is about.

As a matter of fact, it was such fun out there this weekend, they need to shut it down in the river right now...CLOSE it to all fishing.

NOW there's people posting proud pictures of their flossed springs on there...SAD SAD SAD..you accomplished ZERO....get out on the chuck, and see what it's about out there..and see the SKILL and effort required for LEGITIMATELY fishing for them. See the effort, the skill, the knowledge, etc etc etc..

Don't anyone tell me to get off my HIGH HORSE either, cuz by the way...I could care less if you can't afford it or say you can't..., if you can afford the gas to drive to the bar, drive a pick up truck with mega payments, etc......

YOU"LL NEVER change my opinion on flossing, and that it SHOULD< MUST< and WILL BE BANNED (as with several Vancouver Island Rivers---it already has!).

Last week of open Sox fishing in the chuck this late for another 4 years folks...you may not get another chance like this....

Ill catch more fish in one season in the river than you would in 10 years out in the chuck Fishing Mangian. I have hooked 200 + Chinooks and 100+ socs this summer. I do what works. In the Fraiser, BB is the most effective method. In the vedder, I float fish roe. In the Skeena I backboucne eggs. In the Harrison I spoon fish. I use to ocean fish, but the fishery has been falling over the years. You get skunked many more times than you catch fish. In the river its limits most of the time. There is also no waves, stong tides or salt, rust. Guys like me make me sick. Keep your views about BB to yourself. Don't you think this debate is getting old??

No, I don't think the debate is getting old..and nor do the guys that are representing anglers on SFAB either. DFO is listening more than ever before, and you're BB days are numbered.

You call flossing angling? LMAO!

As for you not being able to catch fish in the 'Chuck..sorry to hear that. Maybe if you were a better fisher/angler you would catch more fish out on the ocean there? No, I haven't personally caught 200 keeper sized springs and boated 100 plus socks this summer, then again if I were guiding full time locally, I'd have blown your numbers right out of the water for Socks in just a week with my guests--without snagging, and the springs woulda been done a long time ago. I can name any number of guides in the past week that did your Sockeye Numbers without snagging... and if you want to include non keeper sized springs (less than 65 cm), I could have had you beat on personal fishing trips in the first 5 trips out in March if I were using smaller hooks--but I prefer to let the little ones keep on swimming.  I prefer to treat the resource well and practice conservation minded fishing practices, and not harass fish that aren't biting. 200 springs and 100 Socks this summer? Wow...you're outfishing most of the guides on the river for Springs! Good for you... a massive piece of dental floss right by the fish as opposed to seeking them out in a BIG BAD ocean with gear, a boat, downriggers, herring, tackle, weights, equipment, etc... and learning how to catch fish and entice them to bite...? Sounds like taking the easy way out to me.

However, if you're going to boast that your numbers are impressive...dear sir...LMAO, I'm not even going to respond to that. I'll leave that to the rest of the board and the professional river guides on here to have at your comment.

Tight Lines..or should that be "Long Tight Lines!" to you?

(Note to moderators...tongue in cheek intended in my post)  ::)
