With the announcement that fully vaccinated American tourists will be able to travel to Canada starting August 9, I hope that the reciprocal right is announced shortly. While I look forward to once again being able to fish in BC, I would like to remind everyone here that there are also some good fisheries in Washington that are worth driving a couple of hours, especially before September.  The Nooksack River opens August 1 for pinks and normally peaks around the 3rd week of August, and they should be plentiful but are famously small.  The Skagit River opens for pinks on August 14 and those fish should be a little bigger.  Coho get going in both rivers September 1 (actually a little earlier in the Nooksack), and tend to show up in numbers well before the Fraser tributary coho.  I'll try to remember to check my mailbox on here in case anyone has questions about these fisheries. 

Finally, you'll see me and my dad on the Vedder this fall again.  Please let it be like 2019 again!

Thanks Jake.  However, if I go, it wouldn't be for fishing, it will be for shopping.  I miss my Trader Joe's chocolate and your restaurants.  I like the Outdoor Emporium for fishing tackle and wonder which fishing stores you like.

US Border is not open to Canadians for now.  Even for Canadians who want to shop , coming back the same day requires a covid19 test based on the current rules. Didn't see any exemptions for same day shopping trips.

Local tackle stores have been struggling with getting inventory during COVID.  The best right now is LFS Marine in Bellingham, but Yeager's has been doing pretty good at fixing their inventory problems as well. And to be honest, the first couple trips we make to BC will also be for shopping and dining out in Richmond.

And I expect that my first trip south will be to a Bellingham craft brewery. The last one we went to before pandemic was Aslan; seems fitting that it be the first we go back to!

The breweries have weathered the pandemic quite well. Also, Kulshan brewery has opened a seasonal beer garden in Waypoint Park, on Bellingham's waterfront.

My family loves Aberdeen Centre - the food court is the closest that we get to Taipei without going to Taiwan.  At least it was - I hope our favorite restaurants have survived.  My family also loves Richmond Ninkazu, but I get stressed out by all-you-can-eat sushi, that is just too much pressure to eat!

Shopping?  We used to like Daiso when the exchange rate was favorable - we'd get lots of dishes and kitchen ware.  Mostly just window-shopping now.

I think by Labor day Canadians will be able to go back to xborder shopping...just a guess
