My venerable 35 year old spinning rod has caught its last fish thanks to an idjut (me) and a vehicle window (also me). Looking to replace it with something similar.

The rod will be used primarily for smaller fish (i.e. cutthroat, with a bit of coho) and with lures in the 1/8 oz range, sometimes up to 1/4 oz. I pair it with Shimano Sedona 1500 and 6-8 pound line. Looking for something around 7 feet and medium/fast action.

I prefer Shimano products, but will look at something else.

This Clarus seems to fit the bill, but any other recommendations you may have?

I have a couple of CSS66ML2D. Medium light, same line rating. It's a pretty fast rod, but I like how skinny the blank is, feels like a light rod to flick around. CSS66M2D would totally be fine for coho, but little too much for cutthroat I think.

I also have a CSS-70UL2C, rated 2-6lb, fast, but it actually feels quite a bit softer than the other, the blank is quite a bit thicker so it feels like a "heavier" rod to cast.

For trout spinning, I really love these ones... but you're paying quite a bit more for these.

What Rod said. Those longer rods are effective for beach fishing when you are heaving a lure a country mile, but for my purposes in freshwater stream and slough fishing, a 7’ish foot rod is perfect for tossing little spoons and jigs.

My strong cultural bias from having grown up and fished around here since the mid 60s tells me that any rod shorter than 8 1/2 or 9 feet is a foolish American affectation.
