Help the new guy.
« on: September 04, 2011, 11:07:49 AM »

Hello every body,
Hope you all are having and amazing and eventful weekend. My name is Bilal and this is my first ever thread on here. I just took up fishing last year and so far have always come home empty handed. Kind of becoming the laughing stock of the house lol. I would really love some tips to help improve my luck, I am thinking of going down to rive road in delta some where and cast a few for the Pink. I would be extremely great full for any tips you could give me. i am really loving the sport so far but really getting bumbed that i have never come home with any thing.

I think you will find some sucess in the coming weeks. There are millions of pinks starting to move into the fraser. Try and time it with the tides, incoming and slack tides are best. If the pinls are around you will most likely see them finning and jumping on the surface.

be persistent and keep trying.  this is exactly the time you will find your confidence and success for catching one.
just keep watching other fishermen and try to follow what they are doing.  don't be shy.  go ask question.  the majority out there are very open and friendly people.

I second what joska said. Switch up your retrieve. Bring along a selection of "go to" Pink lures. Patience and persistence will pay off. Don't be afraid of asking nearby successful anglers for a few tips. Have fun.

new to fishing guy. might help if you posted up what you have been doing so far to fail at bringing home the catch. then some may be able to correct the set up or give advice. if its pinks then dont be discouraged. its ealry yet. they just left the mouth over the past 2 days and are now on their way...its on any time now. we released a pile at scale bar way up at hope on sunday and monday

switch up your retrieve. let it sink for three seconds the first cast. then four second. so on and so on before you know it wham fish on.

This cant be repeated often enough. Experiment with depths and especially retrieval speeds until you find the 'zone'. If you see someone that seems to be into more fish than other people, watch them carefully to see what they are doing different. All casts are not created equal. What may work with a 3/8 oz spoon may not be appropriate for a 1/4 oz spinner.

Pinks may be aggressive, but with this poor water clarity, presentation will still make a big difference. I spent a fair bit of time out there this weekend and you could clearly tell the difference of those who had their technique dialed in compared to those who weren't paying attention to the small details.

good luck
