Roche Lake, May 21st - 23rd 2011
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:03:37 PM »

Spent the weekend at my father's final resting spot.  The weather was spotty as was the fishing, but when it was on, it was on.  Chromies were the hot ticket for the most part, the colour of the rib did not seem to matter as long as it was small and chrome and sitting right off the bottom, but I was also hitting them all manner of fly. I got numbers on a small black spratley, grey shrimp, and a couple on a burgundy leech and green caddis nymph, including a couple of big ones that broke off. I had a monster straighten the hook on my #14 red and black Chronie, when he jumped I put it at 6 pounds easy. I saw a few others in the 4 - 5 pound range and I hear Brian Chan took out a ten pounder in the first week after ice off.  While I was camped at the provincial site, I visited the lodge, which is under new management, a real nice family. They tuned in the games for us on Friday and Sunday and even sold me a can of gas to top up my supply on Sunday (so I did not run out before Monday), even though they have to truck their gas in by can themselves.  I think they are going to do well there.

I was also at Roche this past four days and spent Sunday afternon at the Lodge watching the Nucks, I guess we probably met but didn't realize it... the fishing was great for all of us pretty much the whole time save for a couple of hours here and there, we also found the chromies worked great, I found that a white bead head was the ticket for nonstop hookups.
