Got my start today around 1:30, brewed up a cup of coffee and some toast before I headed out for a leisurely drive to the river. Really looking forward to having the afternoon to fish, I called a few buddies to get some "info" on how their day was going. did not get through to anyone so I pulled up to a spot that had not been producing much lately. No one was there so I thought I'd give it a shot. Chatted it up with an eighty year old, who had been fishing since 7:30, "no fish, not one fish, came out of there today" he commented as he was leaving with two other guys. I now had the river to myself.

As soon as I got down to the run, I saw a fish boil, and another do an impressive tail whip, hmmmm...."no fish"?
I began working the water and got a call from my buddy, while I was talking, my float goes down hard and I am late, too late!!!

I get off the phone and focus on fishing. Float goes down hard again in some slack water, I reel up the and get a great hookset. Within a matter of minutes I land a beautiful wild doe. Took some pics and off she goes. I look around and am still alone, good.

First Doe
Super stoked, I keep fishing and within 45 minutes I see a few more fish roll, and my float dips about 2 inches under, right where there is a snag,

I wait a second and it disappears, wham!!! I set the hook and the fight is on with a large native buck. A few minutes later he is on the beach for some pics and a quick release. A little colored, but beautiful none the less.

First Buck

Quick release
About an hour later and a few fish rolling I toss out to a seam on the far side of the river, almost as soon as it hit the water, my Drennan disappeared. The next few minutes were very exciting with a spirited native buck on the other end. He comes to hand, does a few poses for me and he's off.

Last fish of the day.
That was my day, could not have been much better.
