fish limits
« on: October 18, 2007, 10:36:42 PM »

So I could probably find out if I looked around but figured others would probably wonder the same thing so why not ask here ;)

If I was to get my 4 coho on the Vedder, could I get another 4 the same day at the Chehalis?, am I allowed my 1 chum at the vedder and more at the chehalis? or
get my 4 coho at the vedder and get my 2 on the lower fraser?
how does it work?, 4 fish only a day or are you allowed more if it's a different system?, I fish the vedder, bonk my 4 coho, go home and then go to suicide and get more fish...what is the deal here folks, sure lots have wondered... :-\

The aggregate daily limit for all species of Pacific salmon (other than kokanee) from tidal and non-tidal waters combined is four (4).

But I have come across people next to me and told me that they are leaving with their limit now and will come back this evening causing fishng was so hot...  Even after I told them what the daily limit is.  It is not how educate they need to be.  They know what it is and been told many times of what it is...

Now if we need to write down every catch we get at the back of the lisence with date and everything, that is something officer can re-enforce...  Catch them with fish without recording is a ticket...  Then it will reduce the morning-evening-double-limit-catcher...

That is true, Ghostfish.  People can "lose" their license and get a second copy.  It can be done by given out the copy for a cost of the actual license or 20% off the price.

Tidal liscence can be purchasesd on line. A person can make several copies and then it is no problem.  Not right but is a way people get around it.  Who needs that many fish!

FYI

Tidal Water Replacement licences (page 3)

If a licence is lost or accidentally destroyed, a replacement licence must be obtained prior to resuming fishing, and can be acquired at no cost from any licence vendor. The vendor will ask you to complete and sign a Statement of Loss describing the disposition of the original licence. It is illegal to hold more than one licence.

Freshwater Synopsis (page 8)
What to do if you lose your licence:
A duplicate licence must be obtained prior to resuming fishing.
Do not attempt to buy a new licence. You are only allowed one annual angling licence per year.
Go into any Government Agent office or angling licence vendor (see listings on our web site*) and request a duplicate licence.
You will be asked to complete a Statement of Loss form certifying:
(1) that you are no longer in possession of the original licence, and (2) the number and species of fish retained under the authority of all Conservation Surcharge Stamps affixed to the lost licence.
Pay the fee for a duplicate licence - $10.60 for each item lost: basic annual licence, Classified Waters Licence, orConservation Surcharge Stamp (for steelhead or non-tidal salmon); $1.06 for a BC Senior or BC Disabled basic annual licence).
Note: Duplicate licences are NOT AVAILABLE for One Day or Eight Day licences, or Conservation Surcharge Stamps for Kootenay Lake rainbow trout, Shuswap Lake rainbow trout or char.

Well, remember the DFO was having a hard time trying to increase the population of rockcod and lingcod?  We were even asked to do egg mass counts for them each time we did a dive.  And trust me, a few years back, there were none or very few to be seen.  But ever since that 1 rockcod, and no lingcod rule is out, almost over night, all the bottom fishing charters were closed for business.  Slowly but surely, the population of lingcod (that is the one I know) is slowly increased.  But it is not to the point that it should be reopened for recreational fishing IMO.

The fine was big and no excused was accepted if you get caught of having one or over the 1 fish limit in Rockcod.

Why not do the same here.  1 fish per person per day.  Record your every catch with fish length from nose to fork + date.  Make getting a copy of your license the same price as getting a new one or stop the getting a copy altogether.  If you can lose your license, you can also afford to get another one.  It is rather simpler than have to define which length of leader is considered snagging or not, or posting 24/7 officer in some meat holes, etc...
