Thompson again
« on: September 01, 2006, 11:49:52 PM »

Well I'm fishing the Thom again. Sockeye opened today nothing but small Bows for the last two days. Usually I have to contend with rattle snakes and poison ivy. Today I had a first a bear. Yup, thought it was a headhead as it drifted down river in front of me, then it started moving and i got a good side veiw. I have finally decided to pack a camera in my vest. Anyway he or she (I didn't go over and ask) beached about 100 yards below where I was fishing at Goldpan, so I booked it back to the parking lot to watch from a safe distance. As far as I know nobody got a Sock here today, so we all got schooled when that bear got his.

Something that can attach to a winch on the front of your truck.
250 lb downrigger cable (to be sporting), stainless all the way to the bacon  :-X

Well I do have a freind named Pete, who oftain tells the story of how back in 1960. His Dad and his Dad's freind used a skidder, logging cable, grapling hook, and pig (that is the animal) to catch a 12 foot Sturgeon. The Sturgeon lived in pool in front of the truck repair shop they worked out side Prince George. (remember it was legal to harvest Sturgeon in those days). The funniest part of the tail is when they Sturgeon desided it wasn't going to dragged up on the beach and they almost lost the skidder. They did get the fish in the end and have photos to prove it.

I like the idea of bear fishuing sounds like a blast. I'll bet it would be more fun than when I stomped on a rattlers tail to see how fast it was. But I do think the animal activists would not see the fun or humor in such an activity.

Use peaches for bait!!!   >:(  Came home from fishing this evening and found that a bear had basically cleaned my first year peach tree out!  Ate almost all of the fruit and bent the young tree badly!  Anyone have advice for keeping them away?  I already have a dog but he sleeps thru everything!

peaches would work...or peta's would be even better...just make sure they have bells on their shoelaces first  ;) I would think it would depend on whether you were planning on keep the bear or if it was strictly c & R....of course you'd have to lose a few peta's that way..but hell, they grow them by the bunch's down in SoCal.  ;D

Speaking of reeling in bears, I see the Crocodile Guy bit the bullet on a stingray.

Reminds of that old guy who always fished for sturgeon off Strawberry island, only to disappear to the depths of the Fraser were no doubt the sturgeon found him. :'(
