Unorganize FWR Gathering Today On The Fraser July 1st
« on: July 01, 2004, 06:08:44 PM »

Was quite a surprise to arrive at a bar on the Fraser today between Rosedale Bridge and Hope and see Leadbelly, Canoeman, Hook, Rick & Norm ;D Fishing was pretty slow till I left as they continued to fish. My Dad caught a 18 inch Whitefish :D I broke off a Spring and lost a Sockeye. Odd hook-ups here and there and only saw 2 Springs beached by noon. A huge Sturgeon jumped in front of everybody, Osprey was flying above us, and a guy had a Spring on and it did one of the surface sprawls. Was a great day. Thanks for the cheap deal on bouncing betty's Ray!!!

If you were at the bar where Rick said he was going, then you might have seen me, my wife, and a buddy, up near the top end from 9:45-2:30

Hey Dragonspeed, I was asking around to see if anyone had seen you!!! You should have come down and joined us!! It was an amazing day gorgeous sunshine and a nice breeze to stop it from getting too hot, good company and a couple of brief hookups including a freakin huge Sturgeon that jumped about fifteen feet in front of me and almost gave me a heart attack!!!!!! :o :o Norm had three or more on his line but couldn't set the hook >:( >:( back to fishing school for you Norm!!!!!!!!
Took a nice 1 1/2 hour nap right on the beach!!!

all in all it was an incredible way to spend a beautiful day!!!!!

Till next time.
Rick.

The best part of the whole thing was having extra people there to take your spot when you wanted a break. Take a whizz, snooze, tie a few leaders, have a beer break. As far as fishing goes it was a skunk for me. Had a few hits but no real hookups. One of the springs that did get beached was real nice. It had a huge girth and they say they weighted it at over 40lbs. I don't think so but it was tough to tell otherwise. To bad DragonSpeed didn't come down a ways with the rest of us. Most of us stayed till 4:00pm. The sturgeon that was hooked jumped up and was almost all the way out of the water. It happened right in front of Rick and Norm about fifeteen feet out. It was at least a 5 footer.

ya f u c k tard cant even snag a fish

It was Mrs. DragonSpeed's second time only fishing the river "the other way", and I didn't want to bring her down into an area with many people, because of higher likelyhood of crossings.  Too bad, would have been good.  When did that Sturgeon jump?

The sturgeon was 6+ feet long because I my initial thought was, it is taller than Rick.  It was beautiful in the bright sunlight.  It was mostly shiny silver white and the lower body was a light orange.  It seemed very healthy.  It cleared the water by a good 4 feet.

The guy who, I think, had it on was really putting pressure on his rod, pulling back, winding down and repeating over and over.  He pulled on it for quite a few minutes.  It was coming upstream.  The sturgeon never took out line and was just a heavy weight.

After it jumped, it got off.
