But gt, he's whipped by his women, so he doesn't get to go!  He never gets to go! Well, I think that she might have let him out once!!  But he had to work for it! ;D ;D

At this point it looks like I will be there. I'm also contemplating a pre-derby scouting trip on the 25th.

Every year I say I'll come out for the derby, but every year, I end up getting sucked into something else...

Went to the chehalis on the 27th last year, landed my latest season coho ever, so I'm looking forward to trying that again if I'm unable to make it out on the 26th.

Would be kinda nice catch my first steelie, and win a derby with it... 8)

Remember bigsteel don't horse it don't horse it.

Let's just get things straigth, so there is no confusion!  That video was NOT from the derby, it was from Dec 29!!  It was the second steel that I hooked in two trips to start the season.  ;D ;D  Now now, gt don't get bitter, I had nothing to do with you not hooking one Steelie last year!! ;D ;D If you don't remember how I fish GT, I believe that it was 17 steelies hooked last year.! ;D ;D ;)
Title: Re: 62nd Annual Boxing Day Vedder River Steelhead Derby
Post by: searun17 on November 26, 2005, 12:08:40 AM
17 steelies hooked ,not bad ,but 17 in how many days on the water 500 or so ,you better not have any kids b.s. because the number of days on the flow will dramatically decrease as will your number of hookups and that will be sad because you wont be able to tell us everyday how many fish you have caught this year ,i guess i will really miss you reciting all your stats,lol.B.S. you better get over your small fish syndrome for the good of us all.HaHaHa.

Oh yeah, the video... Received this morning, watched it, laughed very hard but no sounds came out as I don't have a voice right now from the cold. ;) Working on it to get it to the world wide web soon.

Well Searun, glad to see you make your arrival!!!  I already had my days on the water cut drastically last year!!!  I don't know if I could have them cut anymore, as I think that I only made it out 12-14 times last year.  But I could always check my journel for that info!!!!!
Glad you like the video Rod!!!!  I guess that with friends like this around I don't need any enemies ! ::) ;D
I guess that A good way to shut me up though, is to catch a fish sometime, then I wouldn't have to post mine for something to talk about!! ;D ;D

Now don't be bitter b.s. i didn't post the video you just got gt all riled up because he cant fish as much as he would like which is even less than me this year, remember if you are going to slam your fishing buddies they can slam to,don't take it personally its all in good fun, just relax and enjoy yourself a good day on the river doesn't have to allways result in ego boosting catch stats,if you want catch stats i could bore you to death with over twenty years worth,B.s. we wont think any less of you even if all you could catch was bullheads.Lol.

It's all good!!  We all know that everything is fair game when it comes to raggin' fishin buddies!!!!  But, really, it would be nice to be outfsihed sometimes.  I have more fun when you guys catch fish, then I can watch and learn!! ;D ;D You guys are good teachers! ;D ;D

Alright, you've all been waiting for this...

Big Steel's steelhead performance (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/video/bigsteel.avi)

Buckeye compressed the file for me, down to about 1.5mb for faster download. You can either left click on it and view it on the media player right away, or right click and choose save as... for viewing it again, and again, and again...

Enjoy. I'll leave this up for a week or so.

I have a question about the previous Vedder River boxing day steelhead durbys. Do most of the hatchery steelhead caught on the 26th come out of the lower river, because they are just starting to show up? Or have they been pulled out equally from top to bottom?
Title: Re: 62nd Annual Boxing Day Vedder River Steelhead Derby
Post by: searun17 on November 28, 2005, 11:37:29 PM
I have seen them caught all through the system but i personally prefer the mid section of river this early in the season ,i have seen more fish caught in the mid river year after year,i think the early run has a tendency to hold a little longer in the mid river, tight lines.

birdman, I've found the answers for you:

"for the junior trophy, yes it has been a number of times, but some years ago.  Checking back as far as 1999  it has not been awarded.  A junior may have weighed in a fish but chose a prize position higher on the awards list."

Mark, the problem is most likely due to the absence of a driver in your media player that you need to download. Can't help you more than that, as I am unfamiliar with this.

An update on the derby. As of Sunday morning, Fred's has sold about 60 tickets. The forecasted rain tomorrow should be good for the river, but hopefully it doesn't lead to blown out condition on derby day.

Rodney the lickman road punch station would be in the parking lot at the end of the road correct?
Yes, starting at 6:30 am and goes to 8:30 am. If you are later than that you have to go to the clubhouse as you and punch until 10 am.

Latest words from the organizer:

At 9:00 am this morning the Chilliwack/Vedder River was high and muddy and the forecast
is for rain 90 % today and 80 % tomorrow.  The expectation are low for holding a
successful derby tomorrow.

According to Rule # 14, an official announcement will be made on Boxing Day at 9:00 am at
the Fish and Game Clubhouse.

According to rule # 15, IF the derby is cancelled it will be rescheduled for Sunday,
January 1, 2006 and the same derby format will apply.

There is no refund on tickets.

If you have any questions you may call me at 604-858-3257.

Tickets will be on sale at the clubhouse on Derby Day (when ever that may be) from 6:00
am to 10:00 am.

With outdoor recreation, weather is always the final determining factor.

Remember the Boxing Day Sales at the local tackle stores: Fred's Custom Tackle,
Chilliwack Dart and Tackle, Hub Sports, Reaction Fly and Tackle, and Kent Outdoors.

Thanks Rodney fop the update, Searun, Gt and I willl probably head out there anyways unless there is a final word later in today.  But, the rules state that the final word will come by 9 am.  Is there a chance that the final word could come down sooner to save some the price of gas to get out there?
Title: Re: 62nd Annual Boxing Day Vedder River Steelhead Derby
Post by: Rodney on December 25, 2005, 11:22:46 AM
I doubt the final words will come before 9am tomorrow morning. It would only make people confused to change the rule.

next weekend is a no for me. Family obligations but the following weekend for sure. If it is next weekend how many hung over fishermen will there be on the river. Fishing with a hang over is not fun.

An update of the derby from the organizer:

The river is down a bit and cleaner.  It looks as though we should have a good derby on
Sunday, unless there is a drastic change, and we get a lot of rain.

So, things look good for Sunday, unless there is a drastic change.
