I have found that for coho, say the last month or so that blades have outproduced other setups by far!!!! ::) Wondering if other fishermen were noticing the same thing?? ;) ;)
-
For late season coho nothing beats blades if you're playing the numbers game. Chromer and tomatoes will hit blades. I still fish roe late in the season though, to try to pick out chromers and early steel.
Pretty cool story from last year: I was fishing with a buddy last year for late season coho. We ended up spotting a steelhead shadowing some spawning coho so I let him cast to it first as he is a steelhead virgin. First drift over with some roe and float goes down. Unfortuntaly my buddy was a little over zealous and ended up loosing the fish but cool none the less.

well ive never caught anything on blades....till sat when i decided to put a blade on as everyone around had one on. So i put one on and BAM fish on...1st hatch of the season. Now im a beliver..time to get every type of blade!!! :P

Hmm, what happened to spoons?
Has anyone noticed that Big Steel has a tendency to overuse his question and exponential marks? ;) ;D
Sorry... Go on... ;)

What are you trying to say Rod??????????????????????????????????????
I don't know what you are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P ;D
In my saying blades, I am including all types of blades including spoons.

Haa I can almost say I didn't loose any Coho.....
Those 5000 that made into the hatchery lost me ... ;D ;D
-
10-14 for me this year. The first 6 were on roe, the last 7 on blades, with one wool in the middle!I lost one on wool, and 3 on blades! ;) ;)

i find with the cold weather, blades help to stir up sluggish fish. also being so late in the season and the probable amount of roe in the rivers, cohos may no longer be easily inticed, as much as at the beginning of the runs.
-
one rig not mentioned, Dick Nites, work really well on late seaon coho. Float fish or cast and retreive them. Did well last weekend on a size 2 50/50.

That funny cause I have found that on many chilly mornings the blade bight does not turn on until later on 11~ish once it wamrs up a bit.
-
Thats how it allways is for me fishing never picks up untill 11ish, i guess its when the fish wake up. ::)
-
My favorite setup is the fly rod and reel! I find that in the late season - there's alot more room to cast a fly!

so you're saying you get alot of hits prior to that, using roe? this late in the season?
wow. i guess you're the exception. most fishermen i come across, tell me after first light, fishing totally slowed down. usually, around 11:00. and what irony almost all their fish were caught on blades...all at first light. one or two on wool. none on roe. ???
-
On days when it starts off below zero I usually don't start hitting fish until its warmed up a little. First light I will usually start off with roe and then switch back and forth with blades.
