Just curious to see what everyones rod preferences are for driftfishing for coho and steelhead are, personally My favorite is the sage 2106,its very sensitive light weight and has enough backbone when needed.
-
You don't need a brand name like Sage to have a good drift rod. Personally I think the Sage drift rods are overrated for the price. I have tried them and for allot less money you can get something comparable. I have a Trophy and I love it. Didn't have to spend as much money either.

My Sage 2106 is my workhorse for steelheads and cohos.
-
If I had to fish only one rod on the vedder it would be my Sage 3113mb. Its light enuff to be a blast for coho and steelhead and has enuff back bone to tame 40lb whites.
I bought my bait cast version for $150 as a blank and my centre pin for $300 including an avon. So while $450 off the rack at berrys is a ton, there are lots of good deals out there that can make a sage very affordable.

How much did the Sage cost you once you built it?

Stryker IST 1263F, basically the same as a 2106. :) The one I have right now has these light titanium carbide plated stainless steel guides with funky blue zirconia rings. :D
-
Who puts zirconia rings on their rods ?
-
This is what I have. :)

no ed you dont need a brand name like sage to have a good drift rod, but i believe the question i asked was what is your favorite drift rod , mine being the sage 2106,i have fished with many other rods and this is the one i choose regardless of price.

House of Hardy 10 wt. 3pc. 12'6" spey rod is my favorite drift rod. :o
Use it for spey or pinning...awesome.

try saying that 10x. ;) kind of like a hot rod - rod.
-
Fenwick hmx :)
-
sage 2106 gets another vote from me to!
-
I use a Sage 3113mb but also tried A shimano Convergence light weight. Its perfect for Coho and steelheading.
-
convergence

My favorite is a sage 3113 as well, SIC guides. Although I do like my loomis as well. But for some reason, I am always pulling out the sage for steelies. Love the feel. with those guides, I don't really have to worry about changing them, ever!!

finally! I used a B&W for years ,raised a few eyebrows, lost that to a fire, going to pick up a short spey rod on my next trip to the U.K.
use the trophy now and gave had fair sucsess
-
Fenwick 1326 , great rod.
-
I love my loomis, but seem to use the Fenwick HMX more often. All depends on which one i feel like taking. Both reliable rods for me :)
-
I own more expensive rods but I always seem to pull out my trophy .Just has that right feel?
-
i own a hmx med/heavy 11' great for the big fish and i also have a shimano convergence med/heavy i like the feel of the hmx better and it's also seems lighter
-
I've said it so many times but Convergence is way over rated. For them money you will never be able to beat a berkley. I know guys who prefer the berkley to their sage.
-
Strykers,3106,4106,or a hefty 5106.....still need a 2106 for the collection,but not those pimpy blue guides though ;D
-
I use a Sage 3113lb bait caster with a Shimano calais reel. Sage 3113lb center pin with a John Milner 4-3/8 King Fisher and Sage 3113mb with a Shimano 401te when I'm in the mood to catch springs. Although I have caught many springs with my lb's, I find the mb's have more back bone. I prefer the extra length great for hard to reach area's.
-
trophy steelheader and XL.
for the price, very durable and reliable.
-
well... hehe
for many years my favorite rod for ho's and steel and the other salmons has been a berkley series one, 1993 edition. Then a few years ago I started working in a tackle shop ;D Since i've had opportunities to test many rods. My favorite rod for big water springs is a talon m2 11' 2, for coho's and steelhead would be a Sage 3106, no worries when that 45 to 50 lbs vedder white inhales the roe i intended for the yap of a hatchery coho. For small rivers like the cap i fish a custom lamiglas custom cut from a 10 6 graphite blank and shortened up to 8 ft, killer rod for 3 to 6 lbs hoes. Now for spoons i use a shimano clarus 8ft xtra fast action. Think i got too many rods? well we didn't even touch trolling, spinning flyfishing...... okay i'll shut up now ;D ;D

Sage 3106 for the pin and Fenwick HMX for the level wind.

I like the Talon for big springs and chums

BERKLEY HANDS DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
It's a toss up, 2106 and 3106. But when fishing my local flow for coho and steel I use my 10' Trophy XL, nice and light ;D
-
I've been fishing Sage rods for about 15 years now. I mostly use my 3113, which is great for everything, but I also have a lightweight B290, it's a 9' rod that I throw spoons with.
