Title: Skagit Sept 25 - skunked
Post by: reach on September 25, 2004, 11:21:17 PM
Went up to the Skagit today for the first time.  Sure is a nice river.  We parked at the Silvertip campsite and fished up from there.  My buddy and I both tried nymphs and a few dry flies but no action.  Talked to another group of 3 guys who had similar luck.

Afterwards we drove down to check out the access at some other spots (Rhododendron, Strawberry etc.) and talked to one guy who said he landed 3.  So we were either using the wrong gear, the fish were only biting lower down in the river, and/or our fish stalking and casting techniques suck (the most likely explanation  :) ).

There wasn't a mosquito to be found on the upper part of the river where we fished.  But there were a few lower down so bring your DEET.  The road is great.  You can average 60 km/h.  There are a few potholes but if you pay attention it's not bad at all.
