District staff counted 100 to 150 dead fish in the creek below Bellevue. About 80 per cent of the carcasses were sculpin. Another 20 per cent were coho salmon. The pH level of the water reached 11.

Thankfully it was really at the lowest levels of the creek. I know no one will care too much because the West Vancouver Streamkeeper Society will just release more parr/smolts; and, it's not the Capilano but that's just disheartening. We need all the salmon bearing rivers we have.

According to the district, the contractors may face fines of up to $750 for violations of the watercourse protection bylaw and parks regulation bylaw.

Small change, a.k.a. the price of doing business.
Until the district adds at least 2 zeros to the maximum fine and really enforce it, nothing will change and the complete and utter disregard for the resource will continue.

Those fines are far too small. Maybe $750 was a deterrent back when the law was written but it's certainly not anymore.
