Title: Illegal Gillnet on the Fraser River
Post by: cohochinook on April 13, 2020, 09:13:20 AM
Recent Post on the Public Fishery Alliance:

Illegal gillnetting on the Fraser River this weekend.

The micromanagement of the Public Fishery continues by the DFO, while a smoking gun lays active on the mainstem Fraser River this Easter weekend.

The DFO admits behind closed doors that they do not have a handle on the poaching that occurs on the Fraser River and sadly one of the big elephants in the room is still roaming free.

All sectors need to work together to save the endangered chinook, sturgeon, and steelhead in the Fraser River. The Government and Fisheries Minister need to lead by example, not by headlines. Gillnets are one of the BIGGEST threats to the survival of the fish themselves and to everything and everyone that relies on them.

Time to implement sustainable fisheries, get tough on poaching, and deal with the real issues that are devastating the stocks of concern
