Looks like a bunch of fun! It must have been quite something to try a new technique that used several different methods- float fishing, catching your own bait, using squid as live bait, drifting in a boat in the chuck, etc. It would be fun to try.

This was last minute planning to do it while we were there and we only had one slip float at the entire lodge... ;D This summer, when we go back (or if we end up being able to go back), we'll be a lot more prepared with a proper float setup and running two rods at a time. The float depth was set at 40ft, but since there was fair amount of current and the squid was swimming freely, the live bait was probably swimming up and down the water column. Each drop had a fish on within five minutes even without seeing fish on the sounder. When we rigged the squid on the mooching rod with quite a bit of weight above the bait, dropping straight down from the boat, it'd take a lot longer to get a bite.
