Title: Chilliwack River, September 23rd 2019
Post by: Rodney on September 23, 2019, 09:13:40 PM
I decided to spend a bit more time today on the river since it's about the right time for some good coho salmon fishing. Conditions have been very good, both river level and clarity. I gave it an hour at first light with only one brief hook-up to show for it. There sure isn't a shortage of chinook salmon in the river right now, and that's turning the coho off. I headed out for another hour in the afternoon, found a run with both chinook and coho salmon rolling on the surface once awhile. After drifting through for 30 minutes and missing a few light takes, finally a good float take-down in 3 feet of water and it was a chinook jack. A few casts later in the deeper water further upstream, a 10lb chinook salmon buried the float. All of them were released.

I am no longer a big roe fisher, but it does have it's place.

If you have been out of it for a while, I would look into Colorado Blades.
I am not a big jig fisher, but find guys I know who are good at twitching them in the right conditions do well.
Finally, various shades of metallic green sparkle buggers can work great under the right conditions with a fly rod.
On the lower river, a retrieved Koho, Kit-A-Mat, or Krocodile can all work well too.

Hope this helps,
Dano
