Title: Stave Water Levels Back to Normal?
Post by: Blood_Orange on June 16, 2018, 10:12:48 AM
I went to the Stave a month ago (May 20) to fish but the water level made it unfishable. Is it back down to normal-ish levels yet? Here's a photo I took of the sign at the start of the trail on the East side. You can only see the top couple of inches!

It’s down, but it’s still pretty high if that helps lol.

Thanks for the reply but I was already at the river by then ;)

It was still too high to cross the marsh on the east side. The sign was fully visible... water level's down about 4 feet from the photo above. Fished the west side and the water is a couple inches above the big rock; between 2 and 3 feet higher than normal levels. Most of the paths involved walking through mud or knee-deep water. I wore swim trunks and water shoes so no big deal... kind of refreshing on such a hot day!

Lots of small cutthroat around but nothing too exciting caught. Great day out though, tons of fry swimming around and lots of birds hanging out.

Back out to the Stave today. Went to the East side and the sign is high and dry again. Water's down about 6 feet from its peak, still about 18" above usual levels. Gorgeous day with lots of chum fry hanging around.

Some fry wound up in unfortunate places when the water receded:

Took the usual route through the marsh area... wore swim trunks and water shoes and was up to my waist during the crossing. The fishing was fine, mostly small cutties, but the scenery and weather were top notch :D
