Title: Check out Vancouver Sun web article on the Pacific Coliseum at 50.
Post by: arimaBOATER on January 21, 2018, 08:22:50 PM
Article tells lots of info on the events that took place in that building.
Mind you it did not mention the Canucks in their '82 Stanley Cup 2 games there ????
It did say the very first skater on the ice was a guy wearing a Toronto Maple Leaf jersey.
WHAT !!!!!
Told about the first game in that building by the western league Vancouver Canucks with Tony Esposito as our goalie. Lost 4-1.
Article mentions about all the various rock bands & performers...
Rolling Stones. Sellout & the crowd that could not get in decided to riot. ( babies) ( no baby bottle ...when Elvis played at the Empire Stadium in 1956 the show was cut short ( lasted about 20 minutes ) as fans stormed the stage. Band put Elvis jacket on a band member & he went into a car & the fans went for the bait. Elvis then walked across the field un noticed to the stadium's office...what's with Vancouver area people. ( also city riot when Canucks lost in game 7 to Boston )
Deep Purple Led Zeppelin Frank Sinatra on & on...
I saw the fight between George Chavalo & Ali.  Also seen Chavalo outside the building dressed up in street cloths after the fight. He had a black eye. A older black guy was telling Chavalo something like " You let me be your trainer & you will be the heavy weight champion one day"
Oh and what about the Vancouver Blazers hockey team. Sanderson was on that team ex Boston Bruin.

Correction: Derek Sanderson was not a Vancouver Blazer, he was a Vancouver Canuck. Sanderson resurfaced & reinvented himself so many times even though he had an alcohol & knee problems.
Boston St. Louis New York Pittsburg on & on...
Good part is he has kicked his alcohol problem & is a hockey agent.

I remember when a ticket at the top of the greens cost the princely sum of $8. Tiger Williams riding his stick after scoring. Guy LaFluer was such a treat to watch, Andre Boudrias letting me slip his Stanley Cup ring on my finger. Aerosmith,Eric Clapton, Alice Cooper, ACDC, Cheap Trick.......So many concerts when I was younger. I've got a lot of memories from that old barn.

Seen Gordie Howe score a super goal. He took a pass going full stride & half slap shot ( kinda a slap shot wrist shot ) Puck shoot past the Russian goalie 's blocker/stick side.
Wow got to try on Super Pest Stanley Cup ring. ( Nova ) plus attended a lot of concerts.
Seen a preacher lady there. The place was packed out.
Back in 1976 77 or 78 ???
I had lost my DL due to a booze charge,so after a day's work at a sawmill I went to the bus stop. Had planned to bus out to the PNE after work ( dirty cloths & all ) but decided to cancel my plans as honestly was very tired pulling & piling lumber for 8 hrs. Bus came & I got on. Bus did not make a right turn on Braid St WHAT? I got on the wrong bus. How did I manage that? Continued to the Lougheed Mall so I thought " guess it is meant to be I go to the meeting.
Honestly even though I'm a Christian a big majority of famous tv preachers turn me off or I just do not trust them. Seems $$$$ is more important than the message.
There's a vid of this preacher lady in Las Vegas also in the 70s & even the casino big shots send out a limo for her ... The crusade is successful. In the vid she is so down to earth & humble.
Beatles Elvis also played on the PNE grounds but not at the coliseum.
Vancouver Giants are in Langley so I assume the coliseum is not used very often anymore.
Alice Cooper is a believer in the Lord ( believe it or not ) He is not loud about it but if asked he totally is serious about it. He had a very lively concert to say the least. Did he not use a snake.

Must be the wine A-BOATER.   ;D Saw Gordie Howe played with his sons Mark and Marty with the Houston Aeros in the WHA. Mark was a better player than Marty.

That must of been great to see. They had a close family. Your right Mark was a very good player.
He played with Philly as  D if I remember correctly. Very good passer.
Gordie also had a son who is a dentist.
