Title: CFL semi finals / Grey Cup 2017
Post by: arimaBOATER on November 19, 2017, 01:43:50 PM
Sk only 3 pts at half time 18-3 Toronto.
Sk comes back in the 4th late in the game to take a lead.
Ricky Ray marches his team with 2 minutes aprox. & gets a TD !!!
Unreal.
3rd down conversions; passes than tread the needle. One near the end zone the TD receiver had 4 Riders very close by.
Another play before that Ray's pass drops over the Rider defender & into the hands of his receiver.
Talk about being cool under pressure. Jim Popp GM Tresman ? head coach have brought a good program players attitude to this TO team.
Matthews of the Maple Leafs was at the game.
Notice there was a lot of roughing penalties & Matthews at the game....something telling me Chris advised the Argos to be rough like the 1970's Flyers.  ;)
Sk had to retaliate to defend themselves & get their mind off the game plan.
It will be Argos vs Stamps or Eskimos in the Grey Cup in Ottawa next Sunday.
What was Dunigan doing standing near the Sk head coach during the game?
Knowing the SK head coach lucky Dunigan was not grabbed & thrown 20 yds into the stands  ;D
Last week SK head coach yelled "get that camera outta my face " during the game.

Great finish ! After dominating the first half, Toronto played conservative and it almost cost them. Riders scored 18 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to take the lead before Ricky Ray's heroics

Stampeders leading the Eskimos 22-15 at the half after falling behind 14-0

2nd half on the way!
Should be a great finish.
Not cold but windy.

What?????????????????  The ???????????????? Hel_ ????????????????????
3rd & 4 with little time on the clock & Esks kick a field goal ????????????????
Get the first down & get the TD & get the game tied.
Dunigan says it's "mind boggling"
Other tsn sports guys said the coach " over thought " the situation.
It could not of happened to a better guy ; Jason M.
The guy all year has gone nuts & yelled at his assit coaches.
Now all of the CFL has just witnessed Jason M bone head dunce hat decision.
The Edmonton sports media are going to be on this topic "big time".
Argos vs Stamps
Stamps at the big dance again.
Maybe they will lose by one point.  ;D
Ya just know Chris is telling the Argo defense about goon play ( Flyers 1970s ) to distract the Stamps off the game plan. Hopefully Maple Leafs do not have to play at the same time as the Grey Cup game.
If so Matthews will phone in sick. Disguise & attend the Grey Cup,with Chris's blessings. ;)
Leafs do well without him anyways.
Big time pressure on the Stamps to win. All the pressure is on the Stamps.
Should be a great Grey Cup game.
Wonder why the cheerleaders were so dressed up? ( forgive me Lord ...only a joke. )

Agree with you A-BOATER, have never been a fan of Jason Maas. He's a hothead. Bad bad coaching decision. Calgary will be seeking redemption next week

Just seen Maas being asked about his decision.
He still thinks he was right !  ;D
What is this guy smoking?
A field goal still has them down by 4 pts & need of a TD.
Too little time on the clock.
Edmonton fans must be pissed.
Maas said that he had faith in his team to stop the Stamps & get the ball back.
Where is his faith in the team on 3rd & 4 ?
They were 3rd & 10 & got a 1st down plays earlier. Unbelievable.
Maas just does not think right under pressure.

He's got the off season to think about his decision. He gambled on 3rd and 10 earlier but when the game is on the line, he didn't have the courage. Maybe he should have drank some of A-BOATER's red to give him the courage.

After he gets home & thinks it thru he just may decide to consume a few glasses of red wine.
Look at this website & article:
thecomeback.com
CFL west division final saw TSN appropriately roasting Jason Maas' FG call, the most bizarre late game move...

The reporter really cannot understand the call.
Reminds me when the Seattle Seahawks got to the Super Bowl ( won it the yr prior. )
Seconds left on the clock & on the 1 yd line.
Their fullback was like a tank making big yds on running plays all game long.
Every sports fan including the kitchen sink just knew the RB would get the ball & plow into the end zone & game set & match ,Seattle would be repeat Super Bowl champs.
Snap of the ball & a short pass is thrown & defender ( Bible thumper )steps in front of the receiver & intercepts the ball.
New England wins the Super Bowl.
The head coach got tons & tons of flack & he still defends the call.
Another hard head.  :o

Shades of Pete Carroll and Marchand Lynch........

Sometimes coaches overthinks in a game.

Shades of Pete Carroll and Marchand Lynch........
Yep that's the boys !
Imagine Seattle players lost some big $$$ in bonuses in their contract if they would repeat as champs.

Another fact is Kevin Glen had 3 intercepts. Bridge came in finally & the Riders get the lead but lose it on final drive. Glen it seems plays very good during the season but in the meaningful pressure play off games  / Grey Cup he normally than not has a sub par effort.
Kevin Glen reminded me of Kevin Durant QB with Als.  ;D in today's game.
Ex SK Rider. What a bummer Durant had at QB this season.
No wonder. He drops back & stares at the receiver & takes him forever to wind up & throw.
But that time he's pressured & the DBs know who he is throwing to 3-4 seconds before he throws.
Bridge should of gone in sooner & stay in.
Nevertheless Argos vs Stamps is a nice match up.
Just hope it's not a blow out unless it's a blow out runaway for the Argos.
Did you guys hear about the score in a university play off games in Canada. Yesterday a team scored I think 11 TDs  something like 80-3.  :o

University of Western Ontario over Acadia. Too bad my alma mater got beaten by Calgary on a last play 59 yard field goal.

Wow 59 yder. Must of had some help from the wind?
Back in the day Ted Gerela with his side kick style had 48 or so distance & missed wide a lot.
Then Edmonton had what's his name. Straight on kicker. He'd change shoes & tie a string around the front & around the back of his shoe.
Kickers are amazing today. In some cases nice indoor stadiums / artificial field ( no mud or worn out grass / ruts ) must help.
On third & 5 on the last drive by Argos today, they went & made a first down.
On this third down the Argos could of tried a 47 yd field goal  & if made it would of tied up the game.
If that 3rd down play failed possibly the Argos coach would of been called out.
But maybe not because Argos were facing a wind so guess they had to be closer. Maybe a 40 yd attempt.
Wow if one does a web search : Jason Maas FG call
A lot of results appear.
One post by Kent Austin ex Tiger Cat coach states that people should lay off Jason M.
Reason. Esks did not make plays when expected. Drop balls etc..
Nevertheless next posts said two wrongs do not make a right type of idea.
Tons of posts really blasting that decision.
One person posted that Jason has not the temperament to be a head coach & this terrible call should be a career ending head coach position.

Your a walking CFL encyclopedia.
Those were the Eskimo hay days.
4-5 Grey Cups in a row. One record that would be hard to beat for sure.
Moon Wilkerson Letterman...great QBs
Past post on this trend was mentioned about 11 TDs scored by Western.
Score run up. No mercy rule here.
The story I thought about was Vic Rapp Head coach of the BC Lions & were beaten badly in Edmonton or was it in Winnipeg ?
Edmonton I believe.
40-50 plus to BC Lions low score.
Another TD was scored near the end of the game & Vic Rapp pulled a temper tantrum like Torts.
He's running across the field going towards the other coach...Lion players grab him ...he thought it was an insult to run up the score.  ;D
Ya just gotta love the CFL.
Honestly with 9 teams each year there is a renewed expectation to try to be 1st in your division & after that all it takes is two wins to be Grey Cup champs. Realistic goals for each team.
NFL there is so many teams something tells me that 80% of the players think there is no way we will be Super Bowl champs. What are the odds ?
These average teams try but kinda know they are going no where.
CFL it's dif. as they can go all the way with either 2-3 wins in a row at play off time.
Bring it on...Grey Cup.
Henry Burris believes Argos QB will retire & go out on a winning note if they win the Grey Cup. Like Burris did. Makes sense.
As far as Jason Maas goes there have been many posting that a field goal was kicked via odds on the final score ( pt spread ) via Vegas...
Gee hope that is not the case. Remember Pete Rose of of Reds baseball team. Lots of suspicion.
Love of $ is the root of all evil.  Robbery fraud dis honest vehicle repairs, on & on...
Hitler wanted the world to be his. All the gold silver factories ...I own it all.

Yahoo !
Argos coach Tresman QB Ray & so many other of their players are Bible Thumpers.
Actually it was a miracle win finish for sure.
Argos win the Grey Cup & a Stamps lose again for the 2nd straight time.
The snow helped the Argos in this one.
Stamps & Buffalo Bills losing Grey Cup / Super Bowl.
Lots of exciting plays by both teams in not so good field conditions.
Wow Stamps had it in their fingertips & it all slipped away. "again"

Typical CFL finish ! Stampeders had the game won except for that ill timed fumble by Jordan. Argos were slipping and sliding in the first half. They changed their footwear at the half and seemed to have a big difference. Two records were set in the game: 100 yards passing touchdown and a 109 fumble recovery

FA well said. Typical CFL finish. Hollywood could not write up a better story even if their budget was 500 million dollars.  ;D
Good point on the changed foot ware by the Argos.
Stamps scored first & tried to go for the 2 pt conversion. Failed. Say if they got it or they kicked for just a pt at the final march they only would of been down by either 1-2 pts & not by 3 pts.
They were 2nd down & say if they were down by 1-2 pts surely they would of just ran the ball & then kick a close field goal for the win.
The blunder Esks coach did last week the Stamps also blundered being down by 3 pts threw for a TD attempt but their man had 2 man coverage & it was picked.
You just know Stamp fans now must be wondering why they just did not run the ball & if it failed they then kick the field goal for the tie.
My bet is Mitchell did not want the extra pressure of overtime as last yr they lost in OT.
But throwing into 2 man coverage ?????
Ricky Ray should retire & go out on this big win. Retire in style like Burris did.
Ali could of retired as a champion but he boxed more fights & got pounded.
Against Larry Holmes Ali was basically a punching bag & had zero offence.
Ricky Ray loves playing but he 's 38 & had injuries ,& he's won 4 Grey Cups so what a perfect time to bow out. Go out a winner. He can have a smile the rest of his retirement days.
Why risk a major injury or bad year & retire in a sour taste in one's mouth.

She's a star!
Dead Pat Burns the old CJOR radio talk show guy would say " How ya doing doll?"
Thought it was a super performance.
She got stardom & then found out her mate was unfaithful. She got really hurt & did not trust anyone & Through the years she made a comeback. She looked happy.
Wonder if the music & singing was all faked as may be a bit dangerous to play all the electronics with snow coming down.
Now that the Stamps have lost 2x in a row if they make it to the dance next year I just may find it in my heart to cheer them on unless of course the Lions are on the other side of the ball.
( cross over playoffs it is possible for a Lions / Stamps Grey Cup game unreal.
At least not as bad as the Baltimore Stallions  vs ????  ;D

Calgary Stampeders. Wally Buono the only coach to lose to an American team in the Grey Cup

Ed Harvey is the new Lion Gm.
Wally B is the head coach for at least one more year.
He does not want to go out on a losing note.
Guess seeing the pain the Stamps went thru,Wally's pain is a little less.
Wally & Lion fans pain somehow is not so painful when one sees how the Stamps flopped. Now that's real pain. After Ottawa won the Grey Cup in 2016, so many players did not return to the 2017 team.
Even the Blackhawks after winning the Stanley Cups 2000s they would lose 3-4 key players each year...
Stamps are going to lose a few key players to free agency thus their team will be dif next year.
Ed H is from at the Esk organization. Was he not a D back for them & then he became their GM for a few years? If Wally is going to get some wins in 2018 their offence has to get it together.
He also has to get alittle more lively on the sidelines & get his troops in gear if they look sluggish.
Don't just stand there shaking his head in the first qter ...
Get on his men early in the game.
Baltimore beat Stamps in Grey Cup with Wally as head coach.
Stamps were so bad in the 1980s the team nearly folded.
Stamps had a few good seasons in 1970s & thru 90s & then in the last 6-8 years...
For my interest the CFL is so exciting.
Every ex NFLer who comes up to the CFL they all say they are so surprised at the high quality of football.

Ed Hervey was a wide receiver when he played for the Eskimos. Still undecided whether this is a good move going forward. Definitely not enough to make me rush out to renew my season tickets. Would like to see more changes in the coaching ranks.
