Title: The Galactic Core
Post by: DragonSpeed on August 22, 2017, 08:56:40 AM
I went out to some nice dark skies in Manning Park, BC last week.  On Thursday night, I managed to stay up late enough (when you eat dinner at 6 and you're in the backcountry - 9:30pm is late ;) ) to get a decent shot of the galactic core.. My first attempt!

It's a little noisier than I would have liked, but I'm still pretty happy with it!

Awesome shot and processing Brian. Looks like you caught a shooting star near the middle as well...

What lens did you use. I had a rokinon 14mm 2.8 for a while (which is great great lens) but recently been shooting with a rokinon 12mm 2.8 semi fishy lens (with 6d).

Thanks Dennis.

That's the Sigma 8-16 on the 7DII.  The drawback is that at 8mm it's something like F/5.0 so the ISO was up at 4000 on a 30 sec exposure.  I think the track might have been a satellite, although it COULD have been some left over debris from the Perseids....

It sucked carrying all the extra gear into the back country, but I was so happy to finally get a chance to shoot the core!

Original image - straight out of the camera, with all adjustments 0. Just RAW -> JPG
