Title: SPOOKY CWD Development!!
Post by: IronNoggin on June 25, 2017, 02:33:26 PM
New studies indicate it may be transmissible to HUMANS!!!  :o

https://thetyee.ca/News/2017/06/24/Chronic-Wasting-Disease-Research/

Not "found" in BC as of yet, but there are many researchers who believe it likely is - just not identified thus far.
Has been found widespread in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and many States.
Damn insidious disease!

Be careful out there...

Cheers,

There has been a great deal of research into the cause, distribution, transmission and effects of CWD.

The latest development I noted above is damn spooky, for if in fact us Two-Legs can contract this, it likely does not require the direct handling / consumption of other infected animals...

Many thought initially that surely FIRE could be the answer to destroy the prions involved. And to some extent it can.
But... have a look at the temperatures required to destroy those occurring on the surface of plants and / or soil:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/26/science/chronic-wasting-disease-deer-elk-prions.html (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/26/science/chronic-wasting-disease-deer-elk-prions.html)

In laboratory settings, plants have been shown to uptake CWD prions from soil and solution, and deposit them throughout their structure, stalks, leaves, flowers, seeds, pollen....

Which then belies the question: Are agricultural crops grown in CWD areas now infected with the prion?
Many researchers believe so, and there is something of a scramble at this juncture to investigate.

And if humans prove to be susceptible to the disease... as may well be the case as studies continue to suggest...

This could easily develop into a situation where neither we, nor wildlife, nor some livestock can even consume any plants grown in CWD areas.  :o

International governments and agricultural interests are already preparing for the potential of full scale embargoes on all crops grown in CWD infected lands.

This could be one of, if not the largest financial crisis North America has ever faced....

Some are betting on it.

And that ain't "cheery" whatsoever...  :'(
