Nice FV trout, don't see ones like that very often unless it's an interior lake that's been getting them.

This was a January fish so a really late push. Hooked more (and bigger) coho in December than all of September, October and November. Lots of stragglers this year!

Tried to "keep em wet," but the fish on this past trip had other ideas. I think they were out of the water longer on all the jumps than they were for the quick lift photos!

I think it is one of those aurora usa made reel that has been discontinued. Was just wondering how the action is.

The reel is a Rushton 425, decent quality for the price, fished it for over 7 yrs. never had an issue. The steelie was properly revived and sent on its way.

I think someone was biting their tongue that a, spent, wild fish was laying on but an inch or two of water.
The fish is worth more than a pic.
It is a Good pic but more worthy of a kept Hatch.
Some folks get excited about a pic in this digital age but the handling of fish, particularly wild, should be paramount.
I do believe the fish was handled with respect but I do know it could have been handled better.
Some folks (who do not post here) will start to think hey, I can drag a fish into the rocks and over the sand and as long as I release the wild ones it's OK.
NOT! That this was done here!
BUT, if a fish can pose, it's spent.

Besides being better for the fish, a pic like this is FAR MORE appealing. Look at all the detail that the water adds to the photo, it shows the fish in its element as well.

Not "the worst". The worst are the threads full of photos of half dead wild fish that were very likely killed solely for the chance to post a pic to the thread. Now we only mostly see the legal dead fish and the wild fish in water pic like Rod's pic above (which I have always loved best, ED is another one good at those "in the water" shots). I personally am not posting only because I am not catching (other than the odd small trout). I for one am glad to see fewer photos if it means more wild fish released safely to spawn.

Huenut, you take, or at least, used to take awesome pics.
Also, It wasn't my intent to scrutinize as I'm sure the fish was revived and sent on It's merry way.
However, there tends to be a need to post any picture.
From in the sink shots to bloody battle pics and of course, poorly handled shots to show the world that someone actually caught a fish.
Fish Porn, in my humble opinion, should offer up a little art and composition.
As Rod and ED offer up on a regular basis

That's a whopper of a striped sea perch..caught a few couple of summers ago about that size. The pile perch get bigger though.
Congrats on the flounder..haven't had any luck with them yet.

Thank you Tim, caught that flounder on a blue croc. Caught three that day, all by sight fishing from the top of Whiterock Pier. Saw about ten landed. Lots in the shallows feeding. Highly recommend giving it a try at high tide, lots of fun. The other two were caught by dragging a baited hook with mussel in front of their face, lol

So yes, the fish is alive and swimming. As for him being pulled out on the sand? Come on, he's half in the water ::)

An english sole landed from Shore on the seawall (low tide), caught WEST of the Lion's Gate bridge. Simple casted a sliding bottom rig insanely far, baited with shrimp. Cleared all the rocks then would let it drift with the current. Unfortunately only got this one guy for today. Sorry for the sink picture, phone died on me.

That looks more like a rock sole to me. English sole are diamond shaped, have smaller scales (smoother texture), and have no lateral line arch. Nice catch anyway for this time of year. I have not seen any yet from shore at where I fished recently (Indian arm). They seem to show up a bit later there.

how did they taste? Caught a bunch of crappies and pumpkinseed and then a couple of small bass earlier this week. Didn't keep any of them. The crappies were abundant and aggressive for sure...but a little too small for eating.

Takes me back to when I was a kid. I used to catch smallies off the dock at our cottage in Northern Ontario. I'd slay them with nightcrawlers and a bobber then take one up to dad where he'd fix it up for breaky.

Sorry to offend you guys. This is kind of why I don't post much on the forum; seems like there will always be criticism. The fish in the video were actually "by catch", if you will. I was targeting a few of the bright, clean ones I saw dart into the run and a darker one bites. Thought I'd put a short vid together just for fun, but I guess that's not ethical. Not everyone is lucky enough to venture out to the Vedder at first light. Thanks for the input, I guess I won't be doing that again...

You did everything within the law but most fish at this time of year are well past there prime and should be left to do there thing.
Yes there are few fish that enter late as well as early which is a good thing and creates a more diversified stock.
These fish are few and far between however and the percentage of clean vs boot fish is too small to keep it open.
Of course this only my opinion an d you know what they say about opinions.lol

Totally agree with you. If I had more chances to fish earlier in the season perhaps I would leave the late run alone, but with school and work it's not easy to pick and choose when I can fish. These fish were caught late March.

I was able to spend a week in Kamloops for my first experience at chironomid fishing. Mostly went to Roche and other lakes in the general area. Completely lucked out with the weather and seasonal timing and had 70+ hookups over the week, and even lost track of the count on two of the days.

Sometimes the doubles are a giant and a midget. I ended up with 6 double headers on the week and 5 were on one amazing day.

No photos yet from me as I haven't been out yet this year due to a ton of work and taking an evening course (CFP), but now that the heavy lifting is out of the way I'm hoping to get out soon.

Both fish were over 21 inches long in each of the first 2 pictures. Each was at least 3 pounds on the small side, probably closer to 4. Every fish we got on those 2 days when I took those pics (the first 2 double header pics) were over 21 inches actually (never took an actual measurement on any, but every one was either as long as, or longer than the opening on my net). Largest the first day was 5, second day was 6. Broke some monsters off too, it was a great couple days with nearly 20 hookups both trips.
Just for size reference, that's the second largest Moby net you can get (I forget the name of it).

3rd flatfish on right's a Pacific sanddab..note that it's left eyed. The other 2 look like rock (left) and English soles (right). So many rock soles this year..it's been a banner year for them.
We caught a couple of pacific sanddabs off a pier on the sunshine coast..this was in deeper water, which was most likely why we were getting them. The much smaller, more abundant ones in shallow water are speckled sanddabs.

Youre probably right about the sanddab but the middle fish was definitely not a rock sole. Completely smooth to the touch and disproportionately large head. Hard to see in the picture, though

Middle one's the english sole. Rock sole has a rougher skin and the arched lateral line. Either way, must've been tasty :D

that is so weird. I am seeing the back of an xbox 360, upside down, behind it is a controller unwrapped, another in plastic, and under what looks like tissue paper used to wrap it is the pamphets that come with a new system. On the left of the screen is an xbox 360 box. Someone got it for a present it looks like. I just couldn't see how that had to do with the fish he was asking about and how people could answer. Joshuag232, just out of curiosity, did you get an xbox 360 recently and if so, is there a photo similar to what I am seeing on whatever site you have the picture of the fish?

Nice kelpie..I've seen one caught (not by me) about that size or bigger while fishing off Sechelt inlet. It was a female though and they tend to get larger and fatter than the males.

Caught this behemoth this afternoon on squid in about 80 feet of water. Personal best for me. 4lbs easy probably closer to 5. I handle bags of fish fillets for a living so I'm good with judging weight.

Occasionally caught off the Washington coast by commercial harvesters using otter-trawls and longline gear. They are rarely caught by recreational harvesters within Puget Sound.
Description: A right-eyed flatfish with a very flat, oval body shape. The eyed side is dark olive brown to reddish gray-brown, sometimes with dusky blotches. The blind side is white and translucent in places. Both dorsal and anal fins tend to have dusky blotches, but not regular banding (see starry flounder). This species has an angular caudal fin with the longest rays at the center. The lateral line is nearly straight with a low arch over the pectoral fin. There is no accessory dorsal branch, but an anterior branch runs almost to the rear edge of the upper eye. Flathead sole have a medium to large mouth with one row of sharp conical teeth in both jaws. The maxillary extends to below the middle of the lower eye. The eyes are large with a narrow ridge and 1 – 2 rows of scales between them. This species has a strong anal spine. Pores are present below and behind the lower eye, but may be hard to see. The flathead sole is very similar to the petrale sole, but the upper jaw of the petrale sole has two rows of teeth and the lower jaw has a rounded rear ridge.
Maximum Size: To 56 cm (22 in) in length, and 1.56 kg (3.4 lbs) in weight.
Maximum Age: At least 27 years for females and 30 years for males.
Range/Habitat: Flathead sole range from the seas of Japan and Okhotsk, across the Bering Sea and to the coast of North America as far south as Point Reyes, California. This species lives on soft, silty or muddy bottoms at depths of up to 1,050 m (3,440 ft). It is most commonly encountered from 100 to 247 m (328-810 ft).

It would be nice if you have gotten a petrale...they are supposedly the highest quality eating pacific "sole" species.

It's the same fish Tim. I think cause the camera is reversed on the selfie, making it look like the eyes are on the other side ( If that's what you meant by it) . I love that washington bottomfish site, you just might be right Mesmer. Very peculiar species regardless. Thanks for the input dudes. We sell lots of Petrale at my work! It is the most expensive out of Dover, Rock and English Sole that we carry. That is something I will aim for. Also looking to add a Skate to the bucket list. Heard from staff at Berrys that they get Halibut off Robert's Bank all the time as well, which would be awesome to land in a kayak. Tight lines guys!!!

Thanks guys - the lighting was nice and I had a bit of luck is all. :)
The fishing was stupendous that day. That fish was the result of a 2-3 hour hike in through thick grizzly country, followed by an approx. 1,200' descent into the canyon to access the river. I tossed large terrestrial dry flies over largely un-fished water and landed numerous (beautiful!) Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout from 8-18".
The hike back up and out in 30'C+ temperatures that afternoon was brutal, but completely worth it. ;D

No they are not tapeworms. Tapeworms are an internal parasite. As Dave stated :Most likely this is a common parasite that seems to like coho, Myxobolus squamalis. It burrows into the skin and pushes up the scales ... harmless to humans but I would definitely skin any fish I wanted to eat.
I have seen these bumps on literally hundreds of Coho over the years. Not harmful at all but it can detract from some of the pictures.

The catch from a few days ago, also Lower Fraser. Uncured Chum roe and dried boraxed coho roe both did the job.

only one fresh coho today and it was wild. hit a bunch of hatchs but none were as nice looking as this wild. fought like a champ too.

Got this one on the fly at first light. I thought I snagged a chum when it took, with that typical chum surge, so I did not set the hook. Then she took off into the current and I saw a flash of silver in the faster water. It was a coho, and it was on my line!!!
