I have been going through my hundreds of old VHS tapes and more recent DVD's. I am putting up some on my u Tube channel.
Here is one I produced nearly 19 years ago for the Chilliwack River Action Committee using some of my footage, also other film I dug up, footage provided by BC TV, script I and Fred Helmer Jr. wrote with voice over by Scott Riley as well as Grant Ullyott from the former CHWK radio station in Chiliiwack. I am sure some of you will recognize some people in the video.
It is sort of fitting at this time as the clay slides may be a problem again after the high water events this year. Hope you enjoy it, I even caught a steelhead just below the Hydro Bridge, the second one at the start of the video.

I remember those days well. Sadly at least 4 of the people involved in this video are now dead.

Very interesting to watch this. Thanks for posting!

Fascinating video. Thank you very much for sharing

1989-1991 flooding on Vancouver Island wiped out the steelhead population. You want to log the watersheds of rivers that is what the results are. You see the effects in the video of 18 yrs. ago.
Now we seem to have major flooding in the winters with droughts in the summer.
You have to curtail the logging or watch your fish fade away to a remenant

cool to see some of the rivers history thanks for sharing chris

Thanks for sharing Mr. Gadsden. Really nervous and sad times back then. Your video did bring a smile to me for the reason only of the memorable times I had fishing square tails on that stretch of river before the slides of 97.
Spent many of days walking from Fort Apache down on through to the helicopter pad on both sides of the river. The big Boulder above the area of the slide you have filmed as well as the indents formed in the slate rock in the same area always seemed to hold greyghosts all the time.

I started fishing the Chilliwack a few years after that event and although I lived in the Lower Mainland at that time this piece of history had completely escaped my notice. Wow. I didn't know.

I have more to share as I am going through all my hundred's of VHS tapes so will putting more on fishing up every so often, is very time consuming but I find interesting at the same time.
