hi I am john
does anyone have any info they can share
on where I can fish I have my licenses ie
fresh salt and salmon stamp my trouble is I cannot drive
so I have to catch a bus I live in Guildford
don't no anyone who goes fishing and I would love to go
I am in my early 60s I can get up and down a river bank
I see there is a river down on 152 near white rock but
I need to no where I can fish I have my own rod reel
and tackle please if anyone can help it would make my
life to be able to get out and fish instead of watching others on tv

thats the nicolmecle river its ok but you can do farmed trout in green timbers forest or bus out to fort langley its nice out there too and im sure some of the people on here wouldnt mind hooking up a ride or having a fishing day with you i know that if i have the time and what not me and my friends would love to have you join us be we are all young guns (20-25 ) so we might not be able to keep up with your wisdom

I'm not sure if this is of any help since I dont live in that area but in about a month or so you will be able to fish the Fraser for pinks. I know there are at least a few floating docks along the valley that are wheelchair accessible and are close to transit. The one I have in mind is at Sapperton Landing but I'm sure there's more. Maybe someone else will chip in with more details about others.

I have only fished in England
I have been down the timbers
but you now what your going to get
no real fun in that but I am very easy going
and a fun guy if you can understand my accent lol

What did you fish for in the UK, didn't think there would be much in Birmingham :-\
I used to fish in the ocean for cod and flat fish, beach casting in the UK (North East)
now I fish all over the place here --mostly Fly fishing if I can

I had a caravan on river seven would go down every chance I had
but did a lot of match fishing on the pools
I would love to find a place I could go try catch some salmon I like to float fish

Keep an eye on the regions fishing closures right now in most of the areas streams rivers and sloughs.
There is multiple species in the Nic, but it is closed at the moment.

I now its closed at moment but how do I find out where I can fish on the nick

The boundary is 208th I believe. And there is many access points between there and the mouth. The most popular spot would be where it crosses 184th. There's also the Serpentine, some popular spots are where it crosses 64th ave or down at the bird sanctuary off KG hwy. Freshwater boundary is the train bridge right near the mouth not the locks like some think. Both are decent spots for Coho in the fall and a long list of other species.

I would also point you to Sapperton. Easy access from the skytrain and nice stable area to fish from. There are a ton of Pinks that travel through there, and always a chance to nail a coho at as well. Lots of other fish down there with bait, like whitefish and northern pikeminnow.
I find fishing in a Surrey ditch to be a less appealing option.

The Fraser is closed to Salmon fishing at this time.
(Unless its changed in the last few days)
You have to wait till it's open; not just when they are in there.

I realize that.
But the way some have typed in their replies it would be easy for the original poster to misconstrue the information as well as all the looky-loos who think forums print the gospel.
There are already a number of ignorant (accidently or intentionally) folks fishing with salmon gear on the river as well as other flows beyond boundaries because they here that salmon are in the river and "it was allowed before..."
I wasn't ragging or flaming, just pointing it out ;)

Fraser River remains closed for salmon fishing (this means anglers cannot target any salmon species, even catching and releasing) until July 31st. Fisheries and Oceans Canada is considering extending that closure. The earliest possible opening will be August 3rd. You can expect an announcement this week.

You're not causing any trouble, it's just that some folks base their statements on past experience based on prior openings and/or don't fully explain leading some who don't read the Regs properly to that conclusion that they can fish.

Do yourself a favour and stop in at a Tackle shop and pick up a copy of the Regulations.
You have some rivers nearby but they aren't allways open as has been said.
Get both Tidal and Non Tidal regulations and study them well.
Its confusing at best and I have lived and fished here my whole life so can only imagine how much more difficult it must be for someone new to the area.
PS you can also look up the regs. online but is nice to have the hardcopy for reference when out and about.

I think you need to relax a little bit on this one. In my reply I said the OP will have a chance at Fraser pinks in "about a month". Lower Fraser will be open for all at this time including the gillnet fleets. Not to mention it's everyones personal responsibility to check the most current regs before you go.

I see I cannot go fishing yet I just need to now where I can go when I am allowed to
as like the nick you can only fish in certain places I live on 152 just want to now where I can fish near public transit as I don't drive

But! Generalizations always create confusion.
Have a CHANCE can mean a couple things:
They open the river for fishing
Or...
Someone has the opportunity.
Or
When it comes to variable regulations some obvious ones should be pointed out as Rod has done.

Hi John/brumy, I have some suggestions for you, however it would be helpful for me to know how far your disability will permit you walk once you get off the bus/skytrain.

well I could maybe do about 15 mins slowish walk
as I would take the least I could fishing don't have waders yet

So, a few suggestions for fishing locations within Surrey that are 15 minute walk from transit
Brownsville Bar: looks like the C71 will get you close enough.
Green Timbers Lake: the 341 runs pretty close, I'm guessing about a 15 min walk
Nicomekl River: the 352 runs down Crescent Road. Get off near the golf course or the Old Stewart farmhouse. Spin casting for salmon in the fall
Serpentine River: a couple of buses run down King George hwy (321 and 394). I can't say for certain if there are stops in the area, but if there are, spincasting for salmon in the fall. Very popular location.

You CAN fish from the beaches - ambleside for example... I don't know the bus system, but a quick google said this: Ambleside
With grassy areas, sandy beaches, athletic fields, a playground, pitch & putt and more, there are dozens of activities to enjoy at Ambleside and almost as many route options. #250, #251, #253, #255, #256, and #257 buses, will all get you between Park Royal and 13th Street where you can access the beach.
