Title: shortened ugly stik
Post by: mr.bean on February 13, 2015, 10:57:23 PM
a 12 foot  x heavy big water ugly stik has a real long handle. about 3 to 4 feet long. when you reel in a large fish. the handle is right between your legs. my question is, if you shorten the butt end about 12 inches , will it compromise the durability of the rod ? is it more prone to breakage or is there no difference ?

Cutting a foot off the butt won't compromise the strength but it will most certainly make the rod feel tip heavy. That still may be a fair trade for more fish fighting comfort. Before you cut make sure you can cast comfortably with a shorter butt.

Easy to cut off with a hacksaw if you don't have a diamond cut-off wheel for a grinder. Peel off enough grip to epoxy a comfortable butt cap back on.
