Title: 2015 Fishing Videos
Post by: Rodney on February 03, 2015, 02:29:27 PM
The previous YouTube videos thread (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=25200.0) is getting quite long so I thought we should start an annual one instead. Here's my first one to get 2015 going.

We finished filming a Stamp River steelhead fishing episode on the weekend with Murphy Sportfishing. The above is just a short clip of what we got. Enjoy.

Is fishing with rod slowly becoming fishing with kitty? I'm not complaining, just an observation. ;) can't wait to see the entire video.

Here is a quick look at what I saw on my adventures this past year. More about the fish rather than the fishing (as I didn't catch enough with my fishing gear to make a video).

Nice Ambassador. I'm guessing you used a drone. Amazing the shots from those things. Rodney when are you getting yours?

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I picked up a Phantom a while back and have tried a few passes over a few rivers and lakes. Word if warning when flying over water - they can have a bit of a mind of their own. It went a bit haywire today at Jones Lake and came down like a rock on top of the truck from about 40 ft up (full battery - full gps - calibrated). Luckily built tough and back in the air shortly. Now if we were over the lake like moments earlier - bye $$$$!

I guess there's no ice on Jones Lake to catch the drone… ;D What's the water level like there right now?

I'll wait a bit longer to get a drone… Invested on too many camera toys already.

Here's another new video.

Nice dogfish, Rod! That was the first fish I saw caught when I moved to the coast years ago. Never bothered skinnydipping in the ocean after I saw that.
As for Jones - no ice at all and it was the lowest that I have seen it. Lots of stumps exposed and about 100 yards of sand to drive down to get to the shore just south of the creek. The water was crystal clear and like glass. Little snow on the peaks and the road was quite good - just keep an eye out for skidders, cranes and such as there is heavy logging going on up there at the moment.
Do you think the Kokanee in there could be hungry for a fly? There were a few mosquitoes there already :o

Thanks for the update. Not sure about the kokanee, but the big cutthroat should be quite hungry in there right now... :D

Finally went ice fishing, another vid. :) Just a preview of a longer vid I'll put up in a couple of weeks from now.

Thanks Rod, that was fun to watch.  The second video under water was very clear a decently bright.  I assume it was fairly shallow?

I have always wondered how you select the spot to fish, considering you do not have the same freedom to move when the lake is not frozen.  Was it a case of inside knowledge or just start drilling holes until you started to see some fish below?

Post by: Rodney on March 20, 2015, 07:06:16 PM
The underwater footage from the first lake was under a tent and slightly deeper than the second one, plus I think the water was not as clear so it was pretty dark, those fish were stirring up quite a bit of mud. In the second lake the bottom had more weed so the fish were not stirring as much up, plus it was sunny and the water was around 6ft.

We had a bit of local knowledge when picking out the spots but it still took an hour to find any biting fish at both lakes. Just drilled where we thought the fish were, and kept drilling… until we either got bites or saw fish through the holes.

I was fishing Roche lake Mother's day at the beaver lodge and the same thing happened to a guy only the rod made it over the side. It's a good thing its only 4 ft deep there as I heard a huge splash and when I looked up I saw him up to his chest playing a fish.  I heard him say that last year he totally lost his rod and that he had to jump in as he didn't want to lose a $1000 set up. It was borrowed from his brother. Hilarious !

Hey Rodney - you snagger!  I didn't know you could bottom bounce and floss trout in a lake - very talented!   ;D

OK - just kidding of course!  I've managed to "foul hook" a handful of trout while chironomid fishing.  I always thought that trout sometimes will "smack" prey with their tail or body to stun it.  Or is it possible that a trout simply just swam into the fly?  Then there's times when I'm fighting a fish that took the fly, but shakes the hook out of the mouth only to get re-hooked on the body or tail as it tries to escape!

Great video - thanks for sharing!  I can't wait until I'm out on the water in a week and a half... :)

Glad to see someone post a video of a fish they foul hooked.

While at Logan over the long weekend I managed to foul 3, my dad 2, my buddy 2 and I didn't ask anyone else. Seemed very bizarre to foul so many but we were fishing a lot of that drop off transition water so perhaps they were running into the flies as they zipped on and off the shouls feeding   ??? ??? ???

We did have some great fishing though  ;D

Seems to be a good bait product.
Guy looked surprised how quick the fish hit!

Seen this type of movie played out before: Rod gets 5 fish to others 1.

Rod has smile ear to ear & others get that "what's going on? feeling"

Seriously looked like a good day out there.

When we think the vedder gets crowded, they even got a cleaning station for your fish right beside the parking lot  ::) blows my mind to think such a vast land mass where almost all creeks and rivers hold good stock of fish and this is the result.
