I have to laugh every time is see this crap on any river.  I find it funny that anyone can get enjoyment out of fishing like that. The laughing stops when a wild fish gets dragged across the rocks most likely  to its death,  only to be kicked back in the water because they can't  keep it.  There is not enough respect for nature in these settings,  lack of respect for fish,  the people around,  and the amount of garbage they leave behind is disgusting.  Scary thought if these beaks spread out they might end up in my spot. So stick to Tamahi the fishing is hot hot hot, the bite is on,  it's a float fishing paradise  ::)

It's been this way for over the last decade that I 've seen , only to get worse . A friend went to check it out yesterday and the COs were there hiking down the stretch checking everyones catch and licences . He said a couple wild coho were confiscated and tickets being given . Never ending  >:(

Dont you know the more people at one spot, means it must be good fishing grounds especially down raging rapids.  Lol.  You would think one of these guys would have a landing net at least.

The guy ripping on his line. Is that trying to snag the fish
Or is he stuck on the bottom. Regardless it looks weird.

Pretty sure hes caught between rocks happens a lot there but its easy to fix without losing gear, you just let line go till your float starts ripping down river, and keep the rod up high and just walk around it carefully. (So you don't go my friend backwards into the water). Works all the time for me. That or use the milk jug method like when you are bar fishing but instead just use a 1L pop bottle :P

However if he was trying to snag, he musta missed Snagging 101...still looked pretty funny.

It's these meatheads that make going around the corner at Tamahi an experience each and every time, some people just asking for no more side view mirror on the driver side. A quick and painless death to this fishery would be to go around that corner with a beefed up snowplow at about 100kmph.....

I  think I've pretty well seen it all now ........what a new  concept !!!!!!

" High Speed Drift Fishing"   cast your float and see whose float wins the race to the end of the rapids !!!   or cast your bouncing betty  and fight like hell to get it back to shore where ever that may be.

I guess I really shouldnt be suprised after all theres fish in them there  rapids...

The video pretty much sums up how desperate people are these days to land anything that is alive so they can kill it and take it home  or kick it back to the river .Honestly I've never seen anthing so stupid in my life   what a sad bunch !!!!!!!!

Tamihi Rapids is like the lower Stave...sacrificial. If you quarantine all the madness there, it leaves the rest of the river for the self righteous rest of us :)

The floss fest was out in full force today too with the river Nesquik..... >:(
Are these people just unaware of what they are doing in a small river such as this, or are they ignorantly sliding in between the other sheep hoping it's survival by numbers..... Either way it's disgusting and polluting the rest of the river with these techniques

x2

You can add KWB, Tesky's Rock and a few other spots to the list. Now if we could only keep those pesky fly fishermen away from some of the sweet spots. ;)

But in all seriousness, I didn't see any violation of the regulations (assuming the coho on the beach was a hatchery clone). Just a lot of ignorance, which, we all know, is bliss! ;D

Seen a lot worst up pass the bridge, a few guys drift their line in the rapid for about 4 feet distance without the float hitting the water and snagged onto fishes!     :-\

And did you know that fish bite with it my friend?

That's why I haven't fished the C/V system for 20+ years-what a dump!

What's worse the crowd or the people in it?

Ehhhh, both!? Ha ha, I think at times it can be the crowd. While the river looks big, at times there are only a handful of fishable spots or at least some of the time it feels like that. So the crowds can be unbearable. But even when the crowds aren't around. The people themselves can drive you to drink... some already do. Since the campsites or at least the one there offers winter camping, I get the distinct pleasure of dealing with the occasional afternoon drunk.

These people only know how to fish this way. They don't know how to fish for coho properly . They fish the Rapids when the rivers up and the canal when it's low. There's areas on the vedder where I fished where there were hardly any fishermen the same day as this video was taken.

the snaggers were in full force today at tamahi......must of counted around 50 cars lined up and parked by the bridge. The canal must get lonely during high water. ;D

Terrible because of the damage to  the cars and yet... completely believable simply because I know the city we live and some of the messed up funny stuff that can happen.

What made me "lol" though was the fact that the funny hat part made picture the culprit as this guy...

there was younger guys(18-24) that vandalized my friends truck last summer and one had long dark brown matted hair and a funny black brimmed hippy hat(almost like a woven wool hat or something). both Caucasian males.keyed the crap outa his truck and dented it to crap... pretty cowardly immature act for no reason other than not getting the "spot" first  and getting your line cut for ruining somebodies drift repeatedly.  I thought it was kind of extreme anyways. don't know if its the same guy but the funny hat and hair made me instantly think it was the same guy :-\.

Yeah, it's a little insane what happens on that river, it makes me wonder how many people here were involved in some of the stuff I've heard about in the shops and read here. Not so much keyings and what not, but I used to hear about cussing matches and threats to cutting lines like above and the like, I've never heard of any blown out fights. But the fact any of this is associated with fishing and common knowledge is a really sad.
