Title: Lets use our brains guys.... Cable Pool
Post by: jettabambino on October 22, 2014, 05:57:08 PM
Not wanting to get in an argument but went down to the Cable Pool today to see what the river was like.    Its blown right out.   Basically its brown and a lot of water... Saw a few guys fishing off the big rock at the cable pool.  I urge you guys to think this thru first for the following reasons.

1-   If anyone... I don't care if its the best swimmer in the world ... Falls in.. your done.    The water was roaring.    Most people were fishing on a rock..and 20 feet or so above the river.

2  If you catch a fish with that current your going to lose it.

3.  I witnessed a guy foul hook on... The fish snapped his line.   basically the fish is going to have a bunch of tackle on it and probably die.

I am not saying I don't foul hook and lose gear but....

Ethics guys.  The percentage of reeling in a salmon when the Cap is blown out like that is small... very small...  Its the same as taking a 1000 yard shot at a deer.   If you hit it.. is it a vital shot that the deer is going to drop..

Just use your head boys and girls...

Fishing from those rocks is stupid no matter what the river/weather conditions are. Those rocks can be very slippery from moss and slime. I've spoken to an angler who wears a pfd collar while fishing up there, he's fallen in before.
There are also a lot of spots on that river where you can get trapped or washed away when the water releases or rises quickly.
It's common sense but that's not very common is it?

Did it once and never again. Probably one of the most stupidest things I've done while fishing. And the river wasn't even blown out!

My question is should something be done to restrict this...

I have also fished in that exact same spot as a young kid....
I think it's unsafe..... And not sure on how someone could release a wild salmon... Or even bring a fish up when the river is like this.

For someone who is inexperienced it seems like a great place to fish....
