I am interested in these locations for crappie but have very little info on them for crappie I know that there are crappie in mill but I've only heard some rumours of them in fish trap. Is it worth the effort to try there (boatless) and if so how should I go about it. Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

There's bass...which are similar, bigger, and more fun. Why bother w the Crappies? ;)
-
thing is sam I've caught a fair amount of bass but I haven't succeeded in catching any crappie for me its proving really challenging, don't get me wrong I do appreciate bass but crappie seem to be more elusive (in BC) and I'm intent on getting one.

The best place in the lower mainland to catch crappie is Whonnock lake. Its almost a guarantee.
-
All you need is a small float, little weight, I like a half inch pan fish jig and just some Lilly pads and you'll get them by the boat load.
-
There are also a fair number of crappy in hatzic lake. A little yellow rubber jig "mister twister" is deadly and they readily take flies such as damsel nymphs and micro leaches.

they are mostly tiny in there though.

Crappie are pretty rare around here. Pretty much only found in a couple lakes around here.

There used to be a large number in Mill Lake until the Pike started feasting on them.

I used to go crappie fishing all the time with my old man at Hatzic. This is going back to the mid 90's, at that time there was an abundance of them in there...good sized ones too. We used a slipfloat with a crappie jig, color didn't seem to matter much. White, yellow, green, even pink worked well. Whonnock is loaded with em too, but all that I've got in caught in there are tiny. At Whonnock, I was catching them on royal coachman flies, along with the crappie jig w/slipfloat method.

went to mill today I started fishing then this kid came along and caught 2 crappie in 2 min then it slowed down anyways he helped me out and I managed to get a little one before the rain drove us out I'm gonna try again when and if we get a sunny day. (he said it was a slow day but still managed to get a 5 or 6 in an hour)

Pike in mill Lake give me a break

What makes you think there is no Pike in Mill Lake? Don't assume they aren't in there just because you haven't seen them.
-
If there were pike in there atleast 1 would be caught in the past 5 years with the amount of pressure on bass.Bass and pike will attack similar stuff. So i call bs until i get photographic evidence, there are no pike in mill lake.

Not enough background in the pic so i still dont believe.

Oddly enough, I don't care about what you believe. People who know the area can tell where the picture is taken by the skyline reflection in the water. Those that can't tell by the reflection or details in the picture don't need to know.
All I can say is don't dip you bare toes in Mill Lake - never know what might find them interesting.
-
Ok so if there are pike in mill how can you target them :o
-
I thought the snakeheads ate all the pike
-
Snakefish!?
-
Snakefish!?
Yes i know a guy who caught one there
Edit: sry it was snakehead fish.
-
If that is actually true you should report it ASAP, Snakehead are highly invasive and taken very seriously http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-s-snakehead-caught-after-burnaby-pond-drained-1.1242793

You think if there was actually pike in there fisheries would a waste there time and money on stocking the lake all the time and I'm not convinced by that pic there is no landscape to prove it's mill sorry

ok this is first time ive heard of pike in mill lake. dont know who transplanted them into the lake as pike are somewhat interior/upper bc fish. i know you have a better pic with the background included so if your not showing us a bogus pic.....ill believe you if i see its mill lake where you handled that pike.

I'm going to mill tomorrow might try for some pike ya never know :o

There is a guy that fishes for them by wading at the west end of the lake. He wades in just off the last piling and cast a big blade spinner probably 3-4" long silver blade, 2" long white body with a red stripe and two or three red beads between the body and blade. The hook has long white thin feathers which I think are 4 pieces of white rooster cape.
I've seen him casting with and without what looks to be about a one once twist core sinker about 2-3 feet above the spinner.
He claims this to be his go to lure in there.
-
Well guess we need some more research, specifically with my kayak I think
-
Hmmmm,Lots of people fish there with spinnerbaits for bass and yet no one catches any pike?
-
Yes, I know the feeling. This year with multiple trips for Sockeye, I didn't hook any Springs. I know there are plenty of Springs in the river during Sockeye season but you would think I would have been into at least one this year. I'm going to bet there area lot more Springs in the Fraser and the area that I fish then there are Pike in Mill Lake.
Try targetting the Pike, you might get lucky.

The fraser is a large river unlike mill lake.
