Anyone have issues with new spoons or spinners tarnishing? Have a couple of Bent Rods copper spinners that were purchased at A&N in December, still in the original package, never opened, and the body is starting to tarnish (doesn't show on a photo, but it's tarnished alright).
Now, I don't mind polishing my gear, but a 6 week old brand new lure should not require elbow grease before I've used it - or should it??

i've heard of guys taking a torch or lighter to there copper to tarnish it up abit. they do it for when they're fishing gin clear water. never tried it but it might just work. tie one on and giver a go.

I use a little toothpaste to spit shine my copper and brass blades, without a good varnish coat it happens on those finishes, use your thumbs and rub them down good and hard then rinse with hot water good as new.

Ive never had that happen. I do like brass with a patina on it when i dont want flash. It can have great depth and color to it.

I don't think I've ever had this happen to an unused spinner or spoon, but ones with a few seasons on them for sure. Same with willow leafs etc for lake gear trolling. I do the same as zap b, only I use a little buffing wheel on my dremmel! Low RPM or else the toohpaste starts to heat up and turns gross. I find wetting the buffing wheel just a bit helps too. My metal comes out looking like new every time!
For painted metal that is starting to get chipped up etc I'll take the paint off with a small wire wheel thn re-paint with nail polish and finishw ith a "hard as nails" clear coat." Lure tape can also bring an old lure back to life.

I personally hand dip my bodies in laquer to avoid tarnishing, these must have been missed somehow. I take old metal lures and i tumble them in a bullet polisher then re laquer them.
Good as new.
I stand behind my lures 100 % and will get you fixed up asap.

Thanks Rod! The post wasn't 'fishing' for anything, mostly just info. After reading some of the posts, I think I'll keep 'em like this and pick up a couple of new ones so I have shiny (for the females) and tarnished (for the males) LOL

Does that include your jigs after they have been thrashed by a couple dozen chums? LOL...
